Tuesday, November 13th Dallas (10-5-1) @ Detroit (8-7-0) In a game where one team really looked to keep rolling, and another looked to change some fortune, The Stars invaded Hockeytown. The first period, it got started right on time. As Valtteri Filppula (6) broke in all alone on Kari Lehtonen and scored on a wrist shot glove high. No assists. It wouldn’t end there though, as on his very next shift, during a 4 minute powerplay for Brendan Morrow high sticking, Filppula (7) scored during the second frame to end the powerplay. Cleary and Quincey would assist. The Stars struck to inch back into it though, at 16:39 Michael Ryder (4) scored on Howard five-hole, Jamie Benn and Derek Roy assisted. 2-1 at the end of one. In the second however, the Wings wouldn’t let up. As Carlo Colaiacovo (1) scored on a big slapshot through a screened Lehtonen. Cleary and Nyquist get the assists. After a tripping penalty for Darren Helm expired, the guilty man came out for the Penalty Kill after Kyle Quincey went to the box for checking from behind. He made up for his mistake, as on a two on one breakaway, Cory Emmerton fed him for an easy tap in. Ian White also assisted. At the end of 2, 4-1. Detroit would seal it, and who better to, when Pavel Datsyuk carried in the zone, and did it all himself. He moved by two of the defenders, and ripped a wristshot past Lehtonen at the 6:41 mark. Kronwall and White assisted. Your final, DET 5 – 1 DAL Three Stars: Valtteri Filppula LW – 2G, 0A, 1HIT, 4S, +1 Ian White D – 0G, 2A, 2HITS, 1S, +3 Danny Cleary RW – 0G, 2A, 1S, +2 Other games in play: St. Louis (5-8-1) @ Toronto (6-4-3) The Blues looked to take care of the Leafs and move back into the Central hunt, but they just can’t get it done. STL 2 – 3 TOR OT Notes: STL loses D Barret Jackman for 3 weeks with an MCL sprain. New York Rangers (7-5-2) @ New York Islanders (8-7-0) In truly Bizarro fashion, the Islanders welcome their city rival Rangers, and win! NYI 5 – 3 NYR Minnesota (8-5-2) @ Philadelphia (8-6-1) In a game where the Wild blew out Bryzgalov and the Flyers, they suffer a huge blow. MIN 5 – 0 PHI Notes: The Wild will lose LW Zach Parise for one month with a pulled groin. Colorado (6-8-1) @ Pittsburgh (8-7-0) The Penguins move back above .500 at home against a surging Avalanche team. Hang on for the win. PIT 2 – 1 COL Calgary (6-6-2) @ Montreal (5-8-2) The Flames looked to move further above .500 as the Avs lost, but the Canadiens continue to inch closer to .500 themselves. MTL 3 – 1 CGY Notes: CGY C Jiri Hudler will miss 1-2 weeks with a mild concussion. They also lose LW Curtis Glencross for 3 months with a separated shoulder. Carolina (6-8-2) @ Tampa Bay (5-8-0) The Canes finally get back into the win column, but the Lightning are floundering, and may need to look at a new goaltender. Could they entice Luongo to come a little further south? CAR 4 – 1 TBL Los Angeles (10-4-0) @ Nashville (8-6-1) The Kings do the Wings (See what I did there?) a big favor, hang on for a win in Predator country. LAK 5 – 3 NSH San Jose (5-7-2) @ Phoenix (7-6-0) The Coyotes make sure the Sharks don’t get their hopes up in the Pacific after the Sharks won at home. PHX 4 – 1 SJS Florida (7-6-1) @ Vancouver (7-6-3) Roberto Luongo and the Canucks shutout the Panthers at home. VAN 2 – 0 FLA Notes: Vancouver signed RW Brian Rolston to a 2 year contract. New Jersey (5-7-1) @ Winnipeg (7-5-0) Martin Brodeur and the Devils defense prove too much for the Jets, as they roll over them in Winnipeg.
