COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) --Sergei Bobrovsky picked up his fourth career shutout -- all in his last 15 games -- and newcomer Marian Gaborik had a goal and an assist Tuesday night, leading the Columbus Blue Jackets to a 4-0 win over the San Jose Sharks. Matt Calvert, James Wisniewski and Ryan Johansen also scored for the Blue Jackets, who had lost their last two games. Bobrovsky didn't have a shutout in his first 98 NHL appearances. He has put up a brick wall in front of the net since Columbus went on a late tear to rise from last in the league to contention for a playoff spot. He made 30 saves, including stopping Patrick Marleau's point-blank wrister in the third period and Dan Boyle's hard, power-play slap shot in the second. The game was crucial for both teams, but particularly the Blue Jackets, who began the night in a tie for 10th in the West, four points behind eighth-place Detroit. San Jose came in fifth in the West with 47 points, but just seven points from falling out ...

Quick thinking (and decision making) lands Gaborik in Columbus

You think Marian Gaborik is fast? Well, actually youre right, he is. But you want to know whats really fast, as in Mach V fast? That would be the amount of time Gaborik had to research his potential new franchise and decide whether or not to waive his no-trade clause. It was like 45 minutes or so, with a guy literally camped outside his door with the official waiver, awaiting his...

Whats in a number?

Im going so far out on a limb here, I believe you can hear it cracking from Columbus up to Cleveland and down to Cincinnati. Im saying no one in the history of the NHL has ever completed the trifecta that Blue Jackets center Mark Letestu did last week: In the same week, Letestu scored a huge OT goal to beat the Anaheim Ducks at Nationwide Arena, he signed a two-year contract extension...

Grading Gaborik’s career as a Ranger

Throughout the course of his career as a Ranger, I was always pretty supportive of Marian Gaborik. While I understand some fans appreciate powerforwards more so than pure snipers, I try not to weigh one skill set vs. the other. At the end of the day, teams need skill and will players to create offensive balance. Indeed, Gaborik wasn’t one who created offense by lugging the puck...

Surprising Blue Jackets are still in playoff hunt

James Wisniewski has learned a simple yet valuable lesson in his eight NHL seasons with five different teams. ''Winning is hard. People don't realize that,'' he said. ''Losing's easy.'' That's why he wants his current team, the Columbus Blue Jackets, to extend their season. They've suddenly discovered how to win. And when you'...
