As per RDS during the intermission this evening, the Canadiens are currently working on an extension for defenceman Francis Bouillon. This may come as a surprise to many, as Boullon is seen as a depth player on the Habs, but he's a fan favourite, a hard worker, and never complains about his role. I suspect Bergevin is approaching this with the understanding Bouillon may be a spare defenceman next year, and that's not a bad move. As we've seen time and again in recent years, you can never have too many defenceman approaching the playoffs - and since the Canadiens once again appear to be a playoff team, it's a good thing they're addressing this proactively.

Habs Sign Francis Bouillon For One More Year by   Steven Ellis

The Montreal Canadiens have signed Francis Bouillon to a one year contract worth $1.5 million. Bouillon has a pleasant surprise this season with the Canadiens defensively, playing with young defensemen PK Subban and Jarred Tinordi.  The 5-foot-8, 200-pound rearguard may only have a goal and six assists in 29 games, but he wasn’t signed for his offensive [...]

Therrien Not Happy With Subban’s High-Sticking Penalty

from Pat Hickey of the Montreal Gazette, P.K. Subban says there’s no worse feeling than sitting in the penalty box when the opposition scores the winning goal. That was the situation Tuesday night in overtime when Subban had a front-row seat as Steve Ott banged home a rebound to give the Buffalo Sabres a 3-2 win over the Canadiens at the Bell Centre. Subban’s reaction...

GARTH: Habs Committed To Galchenyuk

Former Sarnia Sting sniper, Alex Galchenyuk appears to have hit the proverbial "rookie wall". He has recorded onely one assist in his past ten games. He has three goals and tens assist in his rookie season in the NHL. It matters not to the Habs front office and to their head coach Michel Therrien. Galchenyuk, the third overall pick in last June's NHL entry draft...

Eric Engels: Therrien Should Stick to "No Excuses" Mantra

Really? It was P.K. Subban's minor for not high-sticking someone that cost Montreal the game? Michel Therrien needs to deal with the indiscipline of his star pupil? Not a word on Max Pacioretty's blatant mistake, backing into Jhonas Enroth for a goaltending interference minor that cost the Canadiens the momentum they had created in periods two and three? Maybe...

Steven Hindle: They Aren't Who You Thought They Were...

They're Better Through 28 games, the Montreal Canadiens have demonstrated a remarkable resurgence, both as a competitive team on the ice and as an overall franchise, reversing a reputation that had become used to flying south for the winter. With only 5 regulation losses to show for their efforts thus far, only the Penguins and Bruins have been able to maintain pace with...

Canadiens-Islanders Preview

The Montreal Canadiens weren't entirely discouraged after their failed comeback bid, which would have extended their winning streak to their longest of the season. But they'll still have plenty to clean up after a crucial mistake proved costly. To get back on track, Montreal will need a road victory Thursday night against the New York Islanders, a team they've had difficulties...

Sabres-Canadiens Preview

One of the hottest NHL teams outside of Pittsburgh has been the surging Montreal Canadiens, who are getting solid contributions from seemingly everyone who puts on the sweater. They're still not taking the disappointing Buffalo Sabres lightly, though. Montreal looks to extend its winning streak while dealing Buffalo a sixth consecutive road loss Tuesday night in the first of...

Quick Habs thoughts on a Wednesday night

The Habs continue to truck along, having gained yet another point in yesterday's OT 3-2 loss to Buffalo. A few quick thoughts: The Bouillon signing is a great move. Marc Bergevin is clearly a chemistry guy, and believes in the leadership present in the room. Bouillon is a big part. Well done, M. Bergevin. Jarred Tinordi belongs. I was at Saturday's game against New...

GARTH: Is That Your Grandpa's Jacket?

Itter's gonna pop some tags. He's got twenny dollahs in his pocket...... Thanks, sabres.com Otter rocked the faux like a champ on Tuesday night in Montreal. The soul of the Sabres threw his teammates on his back and carried them to a desperately needed road victory. PK Subban deserves a pat on the back for committing his stupid and selfish penalty just...
