Calgary Flames’ winger Rene Bourque was suspended for two games following an illegal hit on Blackhawks defenseman Brent Seabrook during last nights game between the two teams. Bourque had a hearing today with the chief of player safety Brendan Shanahan and received only the two game suspension as Shanahan noted that Seabrook wasn’t seriously injured and that Bourque has no previous history of fines or suspensions in his seven year NHL career. Bourque received a 5 minute major penalty and a game misconduct, while Seabrook was visibly shaken up and left the game right after the play. Fortunately and surprisingly for the Hawks, Seabrook was able to join the team in Pittsburgh for tomorrow’s matchup against the Penguins, though it has not been confirmed that he will play. This is exactly the type of hit they are trying to eliminate from the game altogether. Click here to view the embedded video. In addition, Bruins forward Milan Lucic was suspended one game for a hit on Philly’s Zac Rin...

According to TSN's Bob McKenzie, Milan Lucic will receive a one-game suspension for his check from behind on the Flyers Zac Rinaldo. On the play, Lucic was given a five-minute major and a game misconduct. The Bruins will now have to fill a ...

Bruins LW Lucic to have hearing with Shanahan

Boston Bruins left wing Milan Lucic will have a hearing with NHL disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan on Monday. Lucic was ejected from Saturday's 6-0 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers after hitting Zac Rinaldo from behind. He was assessed a five-minute major and a game misconduct. Lucic initially said after the contest that he doesn't expect to get suspended. The Bruins...

Milan Lucic's Past History Costs Bruins Winger One Game Ban for Borderline Offense

BOSTON -- Officially, Milan Lucic was suspended one game on Monday for his hit from behind on Flyers forward Zac Rinaldo Saturday in Philadelphia. Unofficially, the punishment was more for Lucic's overall body of questionable work than for that particular hit alone. It was the type of borderline hit that would usually warrant just the punishment dispensed in the ice, when Lucic...

Prime Opportunity: NHL Suspends Milan Lucic

There is nothing like starting the week off with a suspension. On Saturday, December 17th there was an incident that occurred during the Bruins-Flyers game in Philadelphia. Boston forward Milan Lucic hit Flyers forward Zac Rinaldo on the far boards in the Flyers defensive zone during the second period. In the play, Lucic uses his left arm and upper body strength to shoulder Rinaldo...

Habs spared the wrath of Lucic, Lucic suspended for one game

After watching the NHL Senior Vice President of Player Safety Brendan Shanahan and his ruling today I ahve come to the conclusion that there is no consistency in his ruling. Milan Lucic was suspended today for boarding Flyer goon Zac Rinaldo. Rinaldo didn't even think the hit deserved a penalty on the play. Lucic drew a five-minute major and game misconduct, yet Rinaldo doesn’t...

I'm Harrison Mooney of Puck Daddy's department of blogs devoted to looking at suspensions handed out by the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety. The Seabrook hit

From the OUCH file. Seabrook was hurt when he was slammed into the boards from behind by Calgary's Rene Bourque. He was knocked out of Sunday's game against the Flames due to an "upper body injury". Calgary Flames left wing Rene Bourque will have a hearing with NHL disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan on Monday. Seabrook did not return to the contest, while...

P.K. Subban a Game-Time Decision for Canadiens, While Bruins Await Decisions on Milan Lucic, Gregory Campbell

BOSTON -- The Bruins will indeed take on the Canadiens Monday night at the Garden. Which Bruins specifically is still somewhat uncertain. The Bruins are still awaiting word on a possible suspension to forward Milan Lucic, who had a phone hearing with NHL dean of discipline Brendan Shanahan on Monday morning for his hit from behind on Philadelphia's Zac Rinaldo on Saturday. Lucic...

Looks like a promotion for Paille

Judging by the pregame warmups, Daniel Paille will take the suspended Milan Lucic's place on the first line with David Krejci and Nathan Horton in the Bruins-Canadiens' game tonight. It also appears that Gregory Campbell, who has missed three games with a fracture in his foot, ...
