Andrew Gross at the Bergen Record reports that Brian Boyle will replace Chris Kreider in the Rangers line-up tonight vs. the Islanders after being a healthy scratch for four straight games. ...i don't care if Kreider didn't have a great game against Boston, you absolutely, under no circumstances change your line-up in the middle of a win streak. Especially after just beating one of the best teams in your conference. Why would Torts want to mess with the team's momentum? ...listen, I get that Boyle needs to play to keep sharp, but if they lose tonight, fair or unfair, a lot of that blame could fall on Boyle. And how does that help his confidence, which is likely already hurting because of the benching. ...a follower of mine on Twitter mentioned that maybe Kreider's foot injury is acting up. Really the only thing that makes sense. Although Torts hinted at a lineup change yesterday, so who knows. Here are the lines from the morning skate... Gaborik...

Don’t expect Boyle to be moved any time soon

(Scott Levy/NHLI/Getty Images) As Brian Boyle continues to sit in the press box, there have been some rumblings about trading him for some defensive depth. There’s some sound logic behind this, as the Rangers desperately need a sixth defenseman capable of 10-15 minutes a night, and Brian Boyle appears to be an asset that has seen a rookie take his roster spot. It makes sense honestly...

Practice Notes: Boyle back in the lineup, Kreider appears to be scratched

Per Jim Cerny, Torts did some re-shuffling of his lines at practice. The biggest move appears to be inserting Brian Boyle back into the lineup, and scratching Chris Kreider. Boyle was centering a line with Taylor Pyatt and JT Miller. This move is likely about two things: Getting Boyle back in the lineup, and giving Miller his fifth and final game as a way to rebound from his poor...

Frustration Builds As Brian Boyle Benching Continues

from Katie Strang of ESPNNewYork, Rangers forward (and Boston native) Brian Boyle will be scratched for the third straight game Tuesday against the Boston Bruins and he's not happy about it.  Venting his frustration, the struggling center wants back into the team's lineup and feels he can still contribute to his Rangers squad.  "I didn't play as...

Benchings "Pissing" Boyle Off

Matt Kalman at NHL.com reports that the recent string of healthy scratches are not sitting well with Brian Boyle... "I'm trying not to think about anything, really, honestly. I'm just trying to come work every day and work as hard as I can because it's ... I've said it before, I didn't play as well as I think I could've, but I know I can be a good...

Kreider sent to Whale

Per Katie Strang, Chris Kreider has been sent down to the Connecticut Whale.  She claims that the organization doesn’t want him sitting in the press box.  Looks like J.T. Miller will stay with the big club and see a year burned off his ELC. Tweet

Chris Kreider Sent to Whale, JT Miller Staying?

#NYR Chris Kreider has been sent back to AHL. Will play tonight for CT Whale. Team wants him to play rather than sit and watch — Katie Strang (@KatieStrangESPN) February 15, 2013 ...With the Whale playing three games this weekend, this is the right move. It doesn't help Kreider's development sitting or playing limited minutes with the Rangers.  ...The one thing...

Press Release: Rangers Assign Chris Kreider to Connecticut

New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the club has assigned forward Chris Kreider to the Connecticut Whale of the American Hockey League (AHL). Kreider, 21, has registered one goal and one assist for two points, along with four penalty minutes and a plus-two rating in seven games this season. [...]

Rangers Send Kreider Down to AHL

For New York Rangers' youngster Chris Kreider, this was a long time coming. Kreider, who has struggled with the big club this season so far, was sent down to the Connecticut Whale so that he could get some playing time. The 22-year-old winger played with the Whale while waiting for the NHL lockout to end and struggled a bit there as well. The key for the Rangers' coaching...

Could Miller just be a spark?

Will Miller be back in another jersey this season or not? JT Miller has been a pleasant surprise in his brief stay with the Rangers this season. His call up has coincided with (perhaps even caused) the re-emergence of the Rangers much anticipated offensive depth, and has caused players such as Brian Boyle to find themselves in the press box or with less prominent roles. Whether we...

Kreider Struggles, Mashinter Scores as Whale Win 4-1

In his first game since being assigned to the CT Whale, Chris Kreider went scoreless with a -1, one shot on goal and a minor penalty as the Whale defeated Portland 4-1. Christian Thomas had two goals. Mini Mashinter Watch Brandon Mashinter scored in the first period to break a 1-1 tie on a great feed from Kris Newbury. Mashinter now has 4g, 5a and three fights in the...

A deeper look into the J.T. Miller decision

Seth Wenig/AP The time has come where the Rangers need to make a decision on rookie J.T. Miller. Miller played his fifth game last night, and once he plays his sixth game, the first year of his entry-level deal will count. If the Rangers send him back to the AHL, and do not use him for a single NHL game for the rest of the year, including the playoffs, then his deal will slide once...

Islanders 4, Rangers 3, SO

The New York Rangers (7-5-1) loss to the New York Islanders (5-7-1) by the score of 4-3 in a shootout. For a box score go to Yahoo! Sports. ... first off, sorry for the late recap. Bad night for the Rangers, even worse for TheNYRBlog. My kids have had the flu all week and it hit me last night, while Adam, who was going to fill-in, lost internet access. Just a complete cluster...

Monzo’s Thoughts on the Blueshirts

Brian Monzo, a producer and hockey writer at WFAN as well as a good friend of the blog, was kind enough to take time out of his very busy schedule to give us his thoughts on the New York Rangers' play to date: PH: I know it is still early on in the season but what are some of your general thoughts on the Rangers' play so far? BM: I think they've played good at times...

What To Do With Miller

While leading the team with seven hits against the physical Boston Bruins is nothing to sneeze at, it's safe to say J.T. Miller had his worst game as a Rangers last night by not registering a shot on goal and going 2-for-9 on faceoffs. So now that the rookie's performance has slipped a little the last two games and with only one game to go before his entry level contract...
