LAS VEGAS - JULY 27: Actress Pamela Anderson is interviewed on the red carpet at the Doyle Brunson poker player appreciation party at the Bellagio July 27, 2006 in Las Vegas, Nevada. (Photo by Ethan Miller/Getty Images)

With the NHL finally showcasing the best the league has to offer on the ice instead of during contentious mediation sessions, the NHL’s notoriously dedicated and loyal fans for the most part have returned in droves. And not only regular folks like we common folks of the Joe Six-Pack and Jane Box-of-Wine ilk. We’re talking about the beautiful people: The stars of stage and screen, legendary musicians, big-time movie stars. And Pamela Anderson. Wait, what year is this, anyway? Are we still living in an era where I need to stand in line for tickets to a Barenaked Ladies show? And Hepatitis is apparently curable, huh? If it wasn’t bad enough for the NHL that it was big news  — well, news — that a well-past-his-prime MC Hammer attended a Washington Capitals game this week, Pamela Anderson made an appearance at a Vancouver Canucks home game at Rogers Arena on Wednesday night against the Calgary Flames. Granted, Pamela Anderson is a proud person with a Canadian upbringing, so it makes sense that she is puck crazy and attends games. What’s most surprising, however, is how it was so big of a deal that they showcased her to the crowd during the game, not to mention how it was deemed highlight-worthy, showing up on NHL.com. A game that was played in Canada and featured a match-up pitting Canadian team against Canadian team, even. Where were the big Canadian stars? Why didn’t they show up? Come on, Ryan Reynolds and Rachel McAdams. Show up, the Seth Rogens and Shania Twains of the world. Where have you gone, surviving members of SCTV? Hockey needs you.
