It’s been slow around the hockey world lately. Apart from debating from Islanders' camp for funding for a new arena, there isn’t much going on before training camp starts.
But some news hit the wires today.
According to multiple sources, Brendan Shanahan has re-upped with the New Jersey Devils.
Shanahan joined the Devils about halfway through the season last year and made an immediate impact. He scored during his first game back and had a hot scoring streak for about the first month of his season. After that, his play started to tail off towards the end of the year. Shanahan ended up with six goals and eight assists in 34 games.
The contract is being reported as a one-year deal, which should come as no surprise to anyone since Shanahan is 40-years-old. But if he’s making much more than the $800,000 he made last year, the deal is a mistake.
