Yesterday we cited a rumor that Dallas Stars captain and left winger Brenden Morrow could be involved in trade discussions and that
the Rangers might be one team to take a look. Morrow had previously played on Brad Richards' wing when Brad was a member of the Dallas organization. But if you believe Stars GM Joe Nieuwendyk, then Brenden Morrow is not going to be moved anywhere... at least during the offseason.

“We had a good talk the other day, and I told him I very much believe there’s a place for him on this team.”

With the additions of wingers Jaromir Jagr and Ray Whitney, it was thought that Morrow, falling down the depth charts, could be the odd man out. Niewendyk seems to believe that the team's captain could fit in well on the third line while still contributing on the powerplay. Morrow has a No-Trade Clause but admitted that he would waive it if the Stars approached him about it. But right now he plans on sticking with the Stars.

It's unfortunate news for the Rangers for a few reasons. Morrow still has something left in the tank and I think the Rangers could absolutely use some goal scoring ability from the left wing as well as a net presence on the powerplay. Even if he was never on the Rangers' radar, his mere presence as an alternative trade option would give Sather more bargaining leverage in discussions for Bobby Ryan or Rick Nash. Still, if the Stars have a bad start to the season or Morrow proves to be an unecessary player for Dallas then his named could be linked to the Rangers very quickly. I do not at all think Niewendyk put a permanent end to the Morrow rumors.
