Found January 09, 2013 on Puck Drunk Love:
As was first reported by Bob McKenzie of TSN and later confirmed by Nick Kypreos of Sportsnet, the Toronto Maple Leafs have decided to part ways with general manager Brian Burke. The timing of this move is head-scratching to say the least, considering Burke was supposed to attend the Board of Governors meeting in New York. He was also asked to give his input for the collective bargaining agreement that was tentatively agreed upon just a few days ago. Dave Nonis, who was the senior vice-president of hockey operations, will take over as the new general manager in Toronto.  Since taking over as the president and GM of the Maple Leafs in 2008, Burke has compiled a 128-135-42 record while missing the playoffs each and every season he was at the helm. During a press conference, Tom Anselmi stated that the decision was made by him and the board and while there's never a great time to fire a general manager, it wasn’t fair to drag out Burke’s employment. We're still left wonde...

Leafs captain Phaneuf: GM Burke's firing a shock

Maple Leafs captain Dion Phaneuf says the dismissal of general manager Brian Burke was a shock. Phaneuf said Thursday that all the players respected Burke, but they'll have to move forward because there is little preparation time before the games begin. Burke was fired as GM and president Wednesday after four years at the helm of the NHL club and replaced by longtime assistant...

Toronto Maple Leafs Fire GM Brian Burke

Twitter is blowing up with reports that the Toronto Maple Leafs have fired their President and General Manager, Brian Burke. For the five years that Burke was in charge, the Leafs failed to make the playoffs and certainly made some questionable decisions (Phil Kessel trade, anyone?). Regardless, the timing of this decision is strange to say the least. Why now? I mean, it’s January...

Report: Canadiens, Maple Leafs Will Play on Jan. 19 Meaning Bruins’ Opponent Still Unknown

One look at the original NHL schedule, and everything seemed to be falling right into the place. It’s becoming a virtual certainty that the NHL season will open on Jan.  19, a day in which the Bruins just so happen to be scheduled to be in Montreal to take on the Canadiens. However, it looks like that part of the schedule will be changed. Renaud Lavoie of RDS in Canada reports...

State of the Maple Leafs post Brian Burke

The news that shocked the hockey world yesterday had nothing to do with the CBA or Bettman or Fehr but rather that the Maple Leafs ownership group decided to make a strangely timed move to remove Brian Burke from his President and General Manager position of the Maple Leafs.  I think it is only fair to take a look back

Brian Burke fired as GM of the Toronto Maple Leafs

Burke has been demoted to a senior adviser to the team. As a Leafs fan, I was absolutely shocked when I first heard this news. Never before have a seen such a weird timing for a change in management. But, reIn...

Burke let go as Maple Leafs GM

The Maple Leafs haven't reached the playoffs since the 2004 season and the team's record during...

Roberto Luongo Trade Rumour – Toronto Maple Leafs Edition

It’s been a slow past few months here at RobTheHockeyGuy, but we are BACK! Though the season isn’t scheduled to start until January 19th, we have actual hockey news to talk about! And none more interesting than the news out of Toronto today: Brian Burke has been fired by the Toronto Maple Leafs. This is a Canucks blog, so I won’t spend too much time analyzing Burke’s failure...

Toronto Maple Leafs Fire Brian Burke

By Tomy Ambrogio (@SNTonyAmbrogio)   Why was Brian Burke fired? Plenty of reasons are out there, such as: - He was reluctant to acquire Roberto Luongo in a trade with Vancouver, as Sportsnet has reported? - The team has a large payroll, and have never been in the playoffs during Burke’s time as GM? - The Phil Kessel trade haunts the Leafs and will continue to do so for years?...

Mike Augello: The Bevy Of Bottom Sixers

The Maple Leafs have not announced the roster for the upcoming training camp, likely to begin on Sunday, but coach Randy Carlyle indicated yesterday during his press conference that the group would be less than 30. Leafs management were in full force at Copps Coliseum Tuesday to watch the Marlies in their last game before heading to St. John’s for a weekend double header...
