Bruins 6, Oilers 3

Associated Press  |  Last updated November 10, 2011
Brad Marchand scored twice, Tyler Seguin had a goal and an assist, and the Boston Bruins won their fourth straight by beating the Edmonton Oilers 6-3 on Thursday night. Joe Corvo had three assists, and Jordan Caron scored his first goal of the season for Boston (7-7). The Stanley Cup champion Bruins are at .500 for the first time since they were 1-1. Ryan Smyth scored twice for Edmonton, including a power-play goal that got the Oilers within 4-3 with 4:42 left, but Milan Lucic answered on the power play for Boston with 2:47 remaining. Lucic has scored in five straight games. Marchand added an unassisted goal 34 seconds later, giving Boston 24 goals during its longest winning streak of the season. The Bruins have beaten the Oilers in 10 straight meetings. Ales Hemsky had two assists for Edmonton, which got goals from Smyth and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins 29 seconds apart in the first period to get even 2-2. Both teams played their backup goalies, and the Bruins opened with a 10-3 edge in shots. Boston's Tuukka Rask finished with 27 saves, and Devan Dubnyk stopped 22 shots for Edmonton. The Oilers, who had won seven of eight, couldn't match the Bruins' physical play as Boston controlled most of the action through two periods. The Bruins broke took a 4-2 lead with two quick goals in the second. Marchand tipped in Corvo's wrist shot from the blue line for a power-play goal at 3:50, and Seguin tapped in his own rebound at 6:24. Seguin led the rush and got the puck on net. Dubnyk couldn't handle it, and defenseman Tom Gilbert tried to keep it from crossing the goal line. But his sweep attempt gave the puck right back to Seguin in the slot, and he scored his ninth goal of the season. NOTES: Boston is 4-0 in November. ... Lucic has scored in seven of eight. ... The Oilers haven't won in Boston since 1996. ... Edmonton (9-4-2) had a chance to tie Dallas for the most points in the NHL, but remained behind the idle Stars (22) and Pittsburgh Penguins (21) with 20.
