It was another fight-filled preseason game on Monday night at the TD Garden but the Bruins were able to get the last laugh as Chris Kelly scored the game-winner with 1:21 remaining in overtime giving the B's a 3-2 win over the Washington Capitals. Kelly won't get one any easier than that as the puck shot out to him in the slot after a Matt Bartkowski shot from the left point was re-directed. Nobody saw the puck taking that kind of bounce and Kelly put it into the open net for the win. Zdeno Chara put the Bruins up 2-1 after he scored his second goal of the game 22 seconds into the third period and 11 seconds into a 5-on-3 power play. Simultaneous fights between Nick Johnson and Michal Cajkovski and Adam McQuaid and Dane Byers led to the 5-on-3 man advantage for Boston. And Chara took advantage right away blasting one top-right from the top of the right circle. The Capitals tied it up at 2-2 6:38 into the third as Michael Latta skated through the slot and batted down a hi...

Boston Bruins Coach Claude Julien is stuck between a rock and a hard a place

October 3rd, 2013 is a day that all Bruin fans should have marked or starred on their calendar. This is the day many have been waiting for since the end of an outstanding Stanley Cup run that was made by the B’s ended. While the fans are getting geared for this day, Coach Claude Julien and his staff might share the same enthusiasm because some tough decisions will have to be...

Kelly scored on a rebound of a shot from the left point by defenseman Matt Bartkowski. The Bruins outshot the Capitals 38-14. Goaltender Tuukka Rask made 12 saves, while Braden Holtby stopped...

The great wall of Chara: A look at the Bruins big man

Zdeno Chara (Photo credit: Brian Babineau/NHLI via Getty Images)   Zdeno Chara is one of the most recognizable players in the NHL and coming in at 6-foot-9, 256 pounds, there is no doubt why this is the case. In addition to being the largest man ever to play in the NHL, Chara is also recognized as having the fastest slap shot among NHL players.  His record 108.8 mph slap shot...

Patrice Bergeron Has The Best Team And Zone Adjusted Corsi

A few days ago I posted the top 20 players by team and zone adjusted Corsi ratings.  Leading the list was Patrice Bergeron of the Boston Bruins.  This is a strong argument that Bergeron is the best puck possession player in the NHL in 2013.  Bergeron is a top defensive forward with solid offensive skills.  He plays a tough role for the Boston Bruins where he plays against tough...

Last two question marks facing the Boston Bruins

With five preseason games in the books and two to go, it is worth checking-in on the question marks still facing the Bruins starting roster, namely: Who will play on the 3rd line alongside Chris Kelly, and which two of the trio of Dougie Hamilton, Torey Krug, and Matt Bartkowski will be in the starting lineup when the season begins on October 3rd?photo via NHL.comThe latter is probably...

Bruins’ Once-Maligned Power Play Looking Like Potential Strength Given Early Success

BOSTON — It’s become pretty en vogue to complain about the Bruins’ power play in seasons past, and for good reason. The Boston man-advantage has been comically bad at times, often leaving it as a point of criticism and ridicule from fans and media alike. If the first five preseason games are any indication, however, there may be reason to believe the Bruins’ power play might...

Bruins good start to preseason

(Photo Credit: Tim Fuller//USA Today Sports) After a jam-packed and rollercoaster ride-like week of preseason games, the Bruins racked up two wins, one shootout win, and one loss. Crossing the border into Canada to face off against long-time rival, the Montreal Canadiens, deemed itself worthy after the efforts of Jarome Iginla and Torey Krug – who were named first and second stars...

Milan Lucic-Joel Rechlicz Fight a ‘Fight for Men,’ Gives Bruins Winger Chance to Warm Up Fists

BOSTON — The Bruins probably don’t necessarily like Milan Lucic fighting too much. He’s a top-six forward who has shown an ability to score goals, and he also brings a physical presence that is undeniable. However, that doesn’t do him or the team much good if he’s watching games from the press box with a broken hand. But fighting is a part of Lucic’s game, and it makes...

WATCH: Capitals' Rechlicz bests Milan Lucic in fight

In the Washington Capitals’ preseason game against the Boston Bruins Monday night, Joel Rechlicz, one of the most well known fighters in hockey showed that besides winning shootouts he can also destroy one of the toughest players in hockey in a one-on-one bout. That player being Milan Lucic of the Bruins who decided to drop gloves with “Recker” and got demolished. The fight...

Bruins power play looks revitalized

The era of the Bruins power play as league-wide punch line might finally be coming to an end. It was a constipated unsightly run last season for the Bruins. They ranked 26th in the NHL with a 14.8 percent success rate during the regular season and they have ranked in the NHL’s bottom third of power play success percentage in three of the last four seasons. During the playoffs...

The Return of Soupy

Earlier this Spring, Bruins Nation saw one of the most heroic, inspiring, and dedicated acts you could ever see on a sheet of ice. Gregory Campbell, a player who has always been loved by the Bruins Faithful, instantly became one of the most respected guys in the league, and a legend for Bruins fans to remember forever. As we all know, in doing so, Campbell suffered an...

Milan Lucic throws down with Joel Rechlicz in epic preseason brawl

If you’re a first line winger for your NHL squad, maybe engaging in a slugfest of heavy fisticuffs in the preseason isn’t the best idea. Apparently nobody told that to Milan Lucic before the Bruins exhibition matchup against the Capitals on Monday, as Lucic and Joel Rechlicz went back and forth with big blows for nearly a minute during the first period at the TD Garden. Rechlicz...

Bruins-Capitals Live: Tuukka Rask Making Second Appearance As B’s Welcome Caps to Boston

12 p.m: The Bruins will play their second preseason home game on Monday night, and they’re sure hoping it goes a lot better than the preseason home opener. The B’s were rolled 8-2 by Detroit at TD Garden on Thursday night, and they’ll get a chance to turn their home mojo around Monday night when they welcome the Washington Capitals to Boston. The ugly loss to the Red Wings...

4 reasons why the Bruins will make it to the Stanley Cup final (and win)

Photo via ESPN.comWhile it's true that the 2013-2014 NHL season is still several days away, it's never too early to start thinking about which teams will walk away the Stanley Cup champions.
