Tyler Seguin celebrates after scoring the tying goal in the third period of Boston’s comeback win over Montreal. For the 718th time in the last 88 years, the Boston Bruins faced off against the Montreal Canadiens last night at the Bell Centre. In the latest addition of the NHL’s most storied rivalry, two of the top teams in the Eastern Conference were at their best, but it was the Bruins that would prevail, 2-1, behind two third-period goals in a game that was very calm for a meeting between these two heated rivals. It was a two-minute span at the start of the third that saw the Bruins score twice and that was the difference in the game. Through the first two, Montreal was outplaying its rivals from south of the border and held a 1-0 lead thanks to P.K. Subban‘s first of the year until Tyler Seguin knotted things up 14 seconds into the final frame off of a centering feed from David Krejci and the B’s looked like a different team when they came out of the dressing room. A minute and ...

Tyler Seguin Looking Poised for Breakout After Finding Back of Net in ‘Northeaster’ Against Habs (Video)

Hopefully, Nemo isn’t the only storm about to hit Boston. Tyler Seguin has been overdue for a breakout in terms of goal scoring, and the floodgates might have begun to open on Wednesday night against the Canadiens. Despite playing well and at times appearing to be the best player on the ice for much of this season, Seguin had just one goal to show for his efforts — and an empty...

Tyler Seguin Steps Up When Bruins Need Him Most, Which Could Signal Beginning of Breakout

The Bruins were a complete mess offensively through two periods in Montreal on Wednesday night. Shorthanded and beaten up, the Bruins trailed 1-0 after two and gave no reason to believe they would leave Montreal with a goal, let alone two points. Claude Julien changed up his lines, and it paid off in a big way. That’s thanks in large part to Tyler Seguin, who wasted no time getting acclimated ...

Tuukka Rask Faces Onslaught Early, Holds Steady in Bruins’ Win Over Montreal (Video)

When the Bruins head north to Montreal, they know they’re going to have to come with full energy right from the drop of the puck, and that was again the case on Wednesday. During the first 10 minutes especially, the Canadiens brought everything they had against the B’s and goaltender Tuukka Rask in particular. Luckily for Boston their netminder was up to the challenge, putting...

Tuukka's struggles versus the Canadiens

Bruins goalie Tuukka Rask is off to the best start of his young career, sporting a 5-1-1 record, 2.10 goals-against and a .919 save percentage through six games played. Despite those impressive numbers, Rask has had an up-and-down season against the Northeast Division. He's had solid wins against the Rangers and Maple leafs, a gut-check overtime loss versus those same blue shirts...

Peter Chiarelli Admits Bruins Will Discuss Extension With Tuukka Rask During Season

Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli stepped out of character Thursday, and in the process, revealed that the B’s are trying to keep one of their franchise cornerstones in town for a while. The GM spoke with the media on a conference call after trading Tim Thomas to the New York Islanders, and he got into what sort of role the play of Tuukka Rask had on the deal. Rask, the Bruins’...

Tuukka Rask leads Boston Bruins to first place

Tuukka Rask stood tall in net for the Boston Bruins Tonight’s win over the Montreal Canadiens felt really dirty for the simple reason that the Boston Bruins did not deserve to win the hockey game. There, I said it. For two periods the Bruins were getting out-played all across the ice and it was a miracle that it was only a 1-0 game at the end of two periods. The Bruins got a couple...

Tuukka Rask’s Emergence as No. 1 Goalie Driving Force in Bruins’ Hot Start to Season (Podcast)

Coming into this season, some fans might have worried about Tuukka Rask taking over the reins as the Bruins’ starting goaltender. It appears that those worries were unwarranted. Rask has been excellent in replacing Tim Thomas as the B’s No. 1 goalie, and the team’s 7-1-1 record to start the year reflects that. Rask enters Thursday sixth in the league in goals-against average...

Tim Thomas traded to Islanders

The Boston Bruins have traded goalie Tim Thomas to the New York Islanders. Thomas, who helped the Bruins win the Stanley Cup in 2011,

Tyler Seguin ‘Probably Has a Few Hundred Fake Girlfriends on the Internet,’ Jokes Shawn Thornton

After suffering a concussion last week, the Bruins asked Shawn Thornton to settle down. So that’s when Gillette asked him to pucker up. The B’s enforcer, who has been shelved for a week, was invited to Gillette’s “Kiss and Tell” event on Wednesday in Boston while his teammates were preparing for a 2-1 win in Montreal. And what would a facial hair event be without a hockey...

Bruins take sole possession of 1st place

Linemates Tyler Seguin and David Krejci scored in the opening 2:05 of the third period Wednesday night, lifting the Boston Bruins to a 2-1 victory over the Montreal Canadiens. The victory moved the Bruins (7-1-1) into sole possession of first place in the Northeast Division and kept Montreal (6-3-0) from taking over the division lead. P.K. Subban scored his first of the season...

The Causeway Saints Are Back In Action. BRUINS WIN!

Last night it took the Bruins a third period line change for the magic to happen. Claude, doing very un-Claude-like things, switched Tyler Seguin and Nathan Horton before the puck dropped for the third period and saw his newly established first line of Lucic-Krejci-Seguin score 2 goals in about 3 minutes. The change seemed to spark both lines, as Horton was able to also rifle off...

Bruins-Canadiens Preview

After suffering their first regulation loss in ugly fashion, the Boston Bruins got back on track defensively and earned another victory. They've had no trouble doing that when facing the archrival Montreal Canadiens recently. The Bruins try for their fifth straight win in the series when they meet a Canadiens team that's also off to a fast start Wednesday night in Montreal...

Video: Tomas Plekanec's breakaway attempt was pretty awful

Tomas Plekanec probably wishes you didn't see that. In on a breakaway against Tuukka Rask, Plekanec failed to get a shot off, instead mishandling the puck and sending it straight to the corner boards. As if wasting a scoring chance wasn't bad enough, the Montreal Canadiens were called for "Too many men on the ice" shortly after Plekanec's embarrassing misfire...

Bruins, Celtics Invade and Conquer Canada

Both the Bruins and the Celtics were North of the border last night, and both came away with victories. The Bruins got a terrific performance from Tuukka Rask, who withstood an early pelleting from the Montreal Canadiens and the Bruins got third period goals from Tyler Seguin and David Krejci for a 2-1 win over their rivals. The Bruins improved to 7-1-1 on the season. Meanwhile,...
