Boston Bruins defenseman Andrew Ference will have a phone hearing with NHL disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan to discuss his hit on New York Rangers defenseman Ryan McDonagh.Ference is expected to face suspension for the hit, in which he was given a charging major and game misconduct by officials during the Bruins' 3-2 overtime loss to the Rangers Saturday. Since the hearing is over the phone, the maximum penalty Ference can receive is a five-game ban.Ference hit McDonagh from behind, sending the Rangers blueliner into the boards during the overtime frame. McDonagh lay on the ice for an extended period before skating off with the help of the training staff.“It's one of the most dangerous hits I've seen in a while," New York head coach John Tortorella told reporters after the game. "Nothing has to be said as far as what should be done. It's a pretty easy call as far as I'm concerned."McDonagh’s status for Tuesday’s game versus the Winnipeg Jets was not given.
