BOSTON — The Bruins held an optional practice at TD Garden on Monday morning before the team heads to Detroit to take on the Red Wings in Game 3 of their first-round playoff series at Joe Louis Arena. Most of the team did not skate, but a few players who have battled injuries and/or the flu bug were present. That group included Daniel Paille, who hasn’t played since taking a huge hit against the Buffalo Sabres on April 12. Paille has skated over the last few days, but his status for Game 3 is unknown. Bruins head coach Claude Julien said that Paille skating is “a step in the right direction. Young defenseman Matt Bartkowski, who hasn’t played against the Red Wings and has fought the flu for the better part of a week also skated Monday morning. Veteran blueliners Dennis Seidenberg and Adam McQuaid skated with Bruins strength and conditioning coach John Whitesides. This has become a regular occurrence over the last couple of days. “I think (Seidenberg is) on track right now, maybe eve...

Boston Bruins Video: Lucic Gets Goal and Stitches, Tuukka Rask Remains Calm in Game 2 Win over Detroit Red Wings

BOSTON – Milan Lucic scored his first goal of the 2014 NHL playoffs Sunday, but that wasn't the only thing he came away with. After crashing into the boards before his goal, he sliced his foot with his skates, resulting in some fresh stitches to take with him to Detroit.…

GIF: Brendan Smith Knees Brad Marchand

Two things about Brendan Smith’s open-ice collision with the Boston Bruins’ Brad Marchand during Game 3 Tuesday night: 1. Smith definitely deserved the penalty that he was assessed for tripping, as he clearly left his leg out to trip up Marchand. 2. Marchand still somehow oversold the play anyway. The Bruins’ agitator tumbled to the ice after Smith clipped his left left ...

Andy Brickley: Kevan Miller Was ‘Menacing Factor’ In Game 2 (Video)

A pair of rookies have stepped up –and then some — for the Boston Bruins in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. After missing Game 1 because of the flu, bruising Bruins defenseman Kevan Miller made his presence felt on Sunday afternoon, finishing with four hits on the day. The young blueliner certainly impressed NESN’s Andy Brickley as he referred to Miller as a ...

Bruins’ Dougie Hamilton Opens Game 3 Scoring With Power-Play Goal (GIFs)

Bruins defenseman Dougie Hamilton opened the scoring in Tuesday night’s Game 3 against the Detroit Red Wings with a tremendous individual effort. Hamilton skated the puck into the attacking zone and scored on an incredible wrist shot that beat Red Wings goalie Jimmy Howard high glove side. It was the 20-year-old blueliner’s first career playoff goal, and Boston’s third goal...

Jesus shows up at TD Garden for Bruins-Red Wings game, is booed (photos/video)

He has risen. To attend a Stanley Cup Playoffs game. On the perfect day to pull such a costumed cameo, a man dressed up as Jesus Christ made an appearance on Eastern Sunday at TD Garden to taken in Game 2 of the teams’ Eastern Conference Quarterfinal series. I’m familiar with the story of Jesus […] The post Jesus shows up at TD Garden for Bruins-Red Wings game, is booed (photos...

VIDEO: Zdeno Chara can only laugh when Brendan Smith tries to pick a fight with him

I’ve always thought the majority of Red Wings fans have been tough on Brendan Smith. Yes he still makes his fair share of mistakes in the defensive zone but then again the guy has played in less than 50 NHL regular season games so there’s still definitely going to be some growing pains. You play, you learn and you get better. However his ‘scuff’ with Zdeno Chara Sunday will...

Chara-Smith Encounter One Of Many NHL Fight Mismatches (Videos)

Zdeno Chara rarely looks up at a player in the NHL, so it was understandably amusing when Detroit Red Wings defenseman Brendan Smith attempted to challenge the much larger Chara. Chara seemed to realize Smith’s mistake even before Smith did, and it prompted a look back at some of the most mismatched fights from the NHL. From heavyweights beating down on an unfortunate victim, to...

Red Wings-Bruins Monday practice post: both teams ‘take an optional’

The morning after the Detroit Red Wings dropped a 4-1 decision to the Boston Bruins via a succession of self-inflicted wounds, we received reminders of two unique parts of this series: 1. There is only so much you can work out via practicing in late April, when "exam season" is taking place both at the collegiate and NHL levels... It's 11 am and there is...

Red Wings-Bruins Game 3 set-up and overnight report: both Wings, B’s say poise is on their side

The Detroit Red Wings face a nearly-must-win situation as they host the Boston Bruins tonight in Game 3 (7:30 PM on FSD in Michigan, NESN in Massachusetts, and NBCSN and TSN everywhere else, 97.1 FM as well). After dropping Game 2 (and getting beaten up, as the Chief reminded us), the Wings flew home and "took an optional" Monday at the Joe, while the Bruins--reminding...

Red Wings-Bruins Saturday practice post: no changes for DET; Bruins call in cavalry, Julien cops out

The Detroit Red Wings and Boston Bruins practiced ahead of Sunday's Easter matinee-ish game (3 PM EDT on NBC and TSN) today, with the Red Wings hoping to build upon last night's 1-0 win in Game 1, and the Bruins' beat writers, including the Patriot-Ledger's Mike Loftus, reported that the Bruins' injured cavalry (Daniel Paille, Dennis Seidenberg and Adam McQuaid...

Bruins’ Special Teams, Physical Play Keys To Success In Game 3 (Video)

The Boston Bruins returned to their physical, intense style of hockey in Game 2 against the Detroit Red Wings as they cruised to a 4-1 victory to even the series at one game apiece. The B’s rough-and-tumble play not only frustrated their opponents, but it also led their special teams to shine as they scored two power-play goals, courtesy of Reilly Smith and Zdeno Chara, to go along...

Occupy Octopi…Bruins Win!

First rant. Then recap. The Octopus throw is the dumbest ******* tradition in sports. It’s disgusting. Who in their right mind would want to skate through that slime? It hasn’t even made sense in about fifty years. You wanna throw a sixteen-tentacled sea beast on the ice? Go for it. Shouldn’t be too hard to find one in your cesspool of a city. And spoiler alert, octopus is...
