(Photo credit: Associated Press) Nearly a decade has passed and Bruins fans could not be any more pleased by the major turn-around the franchise experienced since the early 2000s. Taking a look back when Sergei Samsonov wore a Boston jersey, dominating the ice, and ticket prices were less than $25 for exceptionally well seats, brings more unhappy memories rather positive ones. For a solid five seasons it seemed the Original Six-branded team had no hope in completing a season with a .500 record. Suddenly in 2011, the Stanley Cup swiftly landed itself into the arms of the Bruins. Two seasons later, the Bruins were a mere two games away from re-hoisting the cup. Essentially, Boston faithful have seen their downs and ups. After unsuccessful seasons, adding well-known and talented defenseman Zdeno Chara and underrated and overlooked goalie Tim Thomas to the squad six seasons ago was by far the greatest franchise decision since the early 1970s – the last time, before 2011, the Bruins hoisted the Stanley Cup. After an unsuccessful Stanley Cup final series win this past season, the Bruins looked to revamp the team. The Fourth of July featured a megadeal with the Dallas Stars, resulting in forwards Tyler Seguin and Rich Peverley to be traded to Dallas in return for Swedish-native forward Loui Eriksson, Reilly Smith, Matt Fraser and Joseph Morrow. Later that month, the Bruins finally acquired possible Hall-of-Famer Jarome Iginla. If losing Seguin and Peverley wasn’t stressful enough, the Bruins community watched as fan-favorites, forward Nathan Horton and defenseman Andrew Ference left for Columbus and Edmonton. Yes, there are still numerous strong and game-changing players on the squad, but Tuukka Rask, goalie, needs to be on his toes every second of the game, as he was in the 2013 postseason. The team, although comprised of multiple new players, still have their minds geared towards another Stanley Cup run for the 2013-14 season.
