BOSTON -- Veterans Zdeno Chara and Patrice Bergeron scored the third-period goals that lifted the Boston Bruins to a 4-2 win over the New York Islanders Friday night. But after the game, much of the talk centered around 19-year-old defenseman Dougie Hamilton. Playing the fourth of six games he can play before the Bruins can send him back to juniors, Hamilton again showed why he isn't going anywhere. He picked up his second and third assists in the last two games and continuing to look like anything but a 19-year-old. "It's obviously an executive decision, but I don't expect him to go back," teammate Milan Lucic said after the Bruins remained unbeaten in regulation time, at 3-0-1. It is the first time the club has opened the season with points in the first four games since 2000-01. "Looking at him now, it's amazing he got passed up eight times to go ninth overall in the 2011 draft there," Lucic said. "We're real fortunate to have h...

Zdeno Chara Was Traded to the Senators for Alexei Yashin in 2001

The Islanders let a good one slip away in 2001 when they traded current Bruins captain Zdeno Chara to the Senators for Alexei Yashin. The Isles had selected Chara in the third round (56th overall) of the 1996 NHL draft and made his NHL debut in the 1997-98 season. In four years with the Islanders, he scored six goals, notched 23 assists and well over 300 PIMs. He spent the next four...

Islanders Come to Town: Is the Power Play Improving?

Ok, so I am obsessed with Dougie Hamilton. I truly believe he is going to be a difference maker for this team's power play and defense. Even though he is just 19 years old he has already helped on both ends. On Wednesday against the Rangers Dougie made a few great checks to save scoring opportunities and ended the dreadful 0-11 power play when he blasted a puck from within...

Boston Bruins steal a point in New York

Tuukka Rask’s play was not enough for the Bruins to win two points in New York The other day I wrote about how in the past the Boston Bruins came out slow and tired during matinee games, likely due to a night previous of crazy partying or whatever the kids do these days. That didn’t happen on Monday afternoon even though it was an early-season matinee and the opponent wasn...

Drink The Merlot In, It Always Goes Down Smooth. BRUINS WIN!

It wasn't pretty, but it's 2 points and in the end that's all that matters. The Bruins fourth line really clicked tonight and played like the first...
