The Boston Bruins will raise their championship banner on Thursday night before the season opener against the Philadelphia Flyers.
It will be the sixth banner for the Bruins in the TD Garden rafters.
The Bruins won the Stanley Cup by beating the Vancouver Canucks in Game 7 of the finals. General manager Peter Chiarelli said the team is preparing to deal with whatever hangover might arise from the team's first championship in 39 years. Coach Claude Julien says he will give the players extra rest if he thinks they need it after the shortest summer in franchise history.
The team is keeping mum on who will actually raise the banner and other details of the pregame ceremony.
