If there’s a player on the Blackhawks over the past year that has really needed to get his ass in gear, it’s Bryan Bickell. While his numbers were solid last year, his first full year in the NHL, I still see him as the most frustrating player on this Hawks team. And it’s getting to be clear that it’s a sentiment that Joel Quenneville also shares. Bickell had a pretty strong start to the season. He wasn’t putting up numbers, but he was finally using his size to his advantage and contributing on the “Rat Pack” line of himself, Dave Bolland, and Michael Frolik. Since that strong start, all three have struggled pretty mightily, with health and with performance, but Bickell takes the cake as the biggest disappointment there is. I’m not exactly sure what happened, but he fell off the face of the earth. After a rough stretch of games, that third line was broken up, which caused Bickell to sink even further into the abyss.
