I don’t know if I should cringe, laugh, or cry watching this video.  The Chicago Blackhawks had a lot of trouble with the physical play of the Detroit Red Wings in Game 4 of the NHL Western Conference Semis.  The Red Wings blanked the Blackhawks 2-0 and took a commanding 3-1 series lead.  Nothing showed that dominance more than this monster Jonathan Ericsson hit on Bryan Bickell during the second period. It appears that the initial hit caused Bickell to fall and hit his head on the ice because he was grabbing the back of his helmet as he struggled to get back up.  As soon as he was able to regain balance on his skates, he feel in dramatic fashion…twice. Concussion City.         The post Bryan Bickell Has Trouble Standing After Taking Monster Hit appeared first on Ride The Pine.

Third grader says '9 x 9 = Hossa'

Maggie Ciara, a third-grader at Columbus Manor Elementary School, would seem to be one of the biggest Blackhawks fans around. Maggie took a multiplication test recently during school and when the teacher received her answers questions were asked. Maggie answered the question of ’9 X 9 = Hossa’ and it baffled the teacher. Maggie was paying homage to her favorite Blackhawks...

Jonathan Ericsson crushes Bryan Bickell, Bickell struggles to his feet

During the second period of the Detroit Red Wings game four win over the Chicago Blackhawks, Wings defenseman Jonathan Ericsson absolutely obliterated Blackhawks forward Bryan Bickell.  The two were racing for a loose puck in the corner when Ericsson caught Bickell off-guard.  Bickell yardsaled a bit, losing his left glove, and then had a lot of trouble getting back to his feet...

Marian Hossa is the answer to 3rd grade math problem (Photo)

A third grade student in the Chicago suburbs used Blackhawks forward Marian Hossa's name as the answer to a math problem on one of her tests. Maggie Ciara, a student at Columbus Manor Elementary School in Oak Lawn, Illinois, wrote down "Hossa" as the answer to "9 x 9" on her math test. Her teacher initially returned the paper with a red circle around...

Third Grader says “9 times 9 equals Hossa” on Math Test

Chicago Blackhawks fan Maggie Ciara is a third grade student at Columbus Manor Elementary in Illinois.  On the math test, Maggie answered 9 times 9 with “Hossa” rather than writing 81.  The reasoning behind it, is Hossa’s number on the Blackhawks is 81, but her teacher was baffled as to why she answered the question that way. Justin Breen of DNAinfo Chicago spoke with...

Wings falter in 4-1 loss to Blackhawks

CHICAGO -- Once again, the Detroit Red Wings saw what happens when you play with fire. They felt the burn of the Chicago Blackhawks' firepower in Game 5, a dominating 4-1 victory reminiscent of the first game of the series, also a 4-1 Chicago win. Although the Wings still hold a 3-2 series advantage, playing the way they did Saturday night will only lead to more momentum for...

Blackhawks shut out for the first time in 2013 with a 2-0 loss in Game 4

The Chicago Blackhawks have had an incredible 2013 campaign. Unfortunately, all of their success is unraveling in the second round of the playoffs against the Detroit Red Wings. The best proof demonstrating Chicago's absurd regular season success as well as their turmoil against Detroit is the fact that their 2-0 loss in Game 4 marked the first time the team was shut out in 2013...

Zetterberg getting best of Toews

DETROIT -- He's won a Stanley Cup, the Conn Smythe Trophy as the playoffs MVP and even an Olympic Gold medal. But Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews has just one assist in four games of the Western Conference semifinals. And after Thursday's 2-0 loss to the Detroit Red Wings in Game 4 , his team is one game away from elimination and his frustration is boiling over...

Red Wings-Blackhawks Preview

Jonathan Toews is going to play his usual minutes. Corey Crawford will be in goal. The lines will look largely the same. Don't expect any major changes for the Chicago Blackhawks when they try to extend their season in Game 5 of their second-round playoff series against Detroit on Saturday night. After three consecutive losses to the rolling Red Wings, Toews and Co. think they...

Wings shut out Blackhawks in Game 4

Jakub Kindl scored on a power play in the second period, Daniel Cleary had an empty-net goal and Jimmy Howard made 27 saves to help the Detroit Red Wings hold on for a 2-0 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday night, putting the NHL's best team during the regular season on the brink of elimination. After losing Game 1, the seventh-seeded Red Wings have surged into...

Red Wings-Blackhawks Game 4 game-day updates: Wings understand gravity of their situation

As Paul's already noted, the Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks exchanged the usual "all is well" sentiments as they prepared to face off in Game 4 of their second-round series tonight (8 PM EDT, NBCSN/CBC/97.1 FM, with a post-game show to air on FSD), and coach Babcock was in fine form during his game-day presser... The NHL Network also filed a game...

Our Iron-Chinned Intern Is Keeping His Death-Stare On The Prize

Uncle Mike is not to be trifled with.  Ask Joel Quenneville.  I'd send you to Bruce Boudreau but he is still eating his feelings and can't speak between bites of ice-cream covered corndogs.  While Babcock continues to strike fear into his opponents, it was not always that way. At least that's what George tells us. During the second intermission of a playoff game...

SHUTDOWN AND SHUTOUT: Red Wings push Blackhawks to the brink with 2-0 Game 4 win

First the Red Wings continued to shutdown the Blackhawks then they finished it by shutting them out. Thursday night Detroit took another step towards the Western Conference Finals defeating the President’s Trophy winning Blackhawks 2-0 in Game 4 from the Joe. Jimmy Howard made 28 saves to earn his first shutout of these playoffs as Jakub Kindle scored the game winner with Dan Cleary...

The Hotstove and Grapes

On Saturday's Hockey Night in Canada broadcast, the Hotstove Tonight crew discussed the coaching searches in Dallas and Vancouver, noting that Toronto Marlies coach Dallas Eakins is someone several teams hope to speak with, and they weighed in on the yet-another-one potential sale of the Phoenix Coyotes...
