We are now five days into the NHL lockout. Since the lockout began, both sides have not met, which is not good news for hockey fans. A few Flyers have already headed oversees and some are practicing in the States. Here is the latest news regarding the Flyers....

Bryzgalov Arrives in Russia:

On Wednesday, The Fourth Period reported that Ilya Bryzgalov had signed a deal to play for CSKA Moscow of the KHL for the duration of the lockout. Joining him will be Detroit Red Wings forward Pavel Datsyuk.

Today, Bryzgalov joined his new team. Pictures of him entering the team's facility in Moscow can be found on CSKA Hockey's website. He is seen arriving at the rink carrying his Flyers bag and sporting orange and black Nikes.

Jakub Voracek Signs in KHL, Plays First Game:

On Monday, Jake Voracek confirmed that he had signed with HC Lev Praha (KHL). The team is one of the newest franchises in the league. Voracek, 23, turned down an offer from HC Kladno, owned by former teammate Jaromir Jagr prior to signing a deal.

Today, Voracek played his first game for HC Lev as they took on Avangard Omsk. He contributed to his team's 3-1 win by beautifully setting up the second goal. Voracek and HC Lev Praha will be on the ice again on Saturday as they take on HC Barys Astana.

Flyers Renting Ice at the Skate Zone:

Not having free, incessant access to the team's facilities at the Flyers Skate Zone isn't holding back some of the players. Scott Hartnell, Kimmo Timonen, Danny Briere, and Matt Read are amongst the players who have been renting ice at the Skate Zone.

According to Sam Carchidi, Hartnell has been using his credit card to pay for the ice. He has been paying about $1500 per week, as the players are receiving a discount from the rink's management.

These practices are not exclusive to players currently playing in Philadelphia. Carolina Hurricanes goaltender Brian Boucher and Los Angeles Kings forward Justin Williams, both ex-Flyers, have been participating. Running these practices is Todd Fedoruk, another former Flyer who is now retired.

Because of the ongoing lockout, the players are forced to turn their practice jerseys inside out when skating. You can see that in the pictures below (courtesy of David Strehle).

NHL Cancels Preseason Games Through Sept. 30:

On Wednesday, the National Hockey League officially canceled all preseason games scheduled through September 30.

The NHL made this official with this press release on their website:

NEW YORK – The National Hockey League announced today the cancellation of the 2012 preseason schedule through Sept. 30. In addition, the 2012 Kraft Hockeyville preseason game, scheduled for Oct. 3 in Belleville, Ontario, has been postponed to 2013.

The cancellation of the schedule was necessary because of the absence of a Collective Bargaining Agreement between the NHL Players’ Association and the NHL.

While the Kraft Hockeyville game has been postponed, many of the scheduled celebrations in the winning community of Stirling-Rawdon, Ontario, will proceed as planned beginning on Sept. 30.

Chris Botta, a writer for the NY Times, expects the NHL to announce the cancelation of the rest of the preseason on Tuesday.
