from Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer via the Sacramento Bee, Flyers goalie Ilya Bryzgalov looks as if he is finally starting to get his mojo back.
Or as the Five-Man Electrical Band put it, long before Bryzgalov was born:
“Sign, sign, everywhere a sign ...
Sign: Bryzgalov stopped four of five shots as the Flyers actually won a shootout (Stop the presses!) in Calgary last week.
Sign: After allowing the obligatory first goal, Bryzgalov was razor-sharp in a 1-0 loss to San Jose on Tuesday.
Sign: Bryzgalov made several quality stops to keep the Flyers within striking distance in the first period, and they finally got their vaunted offense untracked - they had been shut out in two of their previous three games - in Thursday’s 6-3 win over the Islanders.
“Sign, sign, everywhere a sign ...
“He looks very much in charge of his net right now,” coach Peter Laviolette said.
BEST OF MAXIM
Ilya Bryzgalov's most impressive save Sunday came off the face of Philadelphia Flyers teammate Pavel Kubina.
Bryzgalov used his blocker to shrug off the third-period volley initiated by Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin, one of 34 saves in the Flyers' 1-0 victory at Verizon Center. More games like this and maybe "embattled" or any other negative adjective...
Ilya Bryzgalov recorded his third shutout of the season. He is just the third Flyers goaltender to record three shutouts in a season since the lockout (Biron 5, 07-08; Emery 3, 09-10).
The game was the Flyers’ first 1-0 win since Dec. 30, 2007 at Florida (Niittymaki).
Claude Giroux took 10 faceoffs tonight, the fewest he’s taken in a game this season.
Philadelphia Flyers defensemen Kimmo Timonen and Andrej Meszaros are out indefinitely with lower-body injuries.
Sitting out Sunday night against the Washington Capitals ended Timonen's streak of consecutive games at 248, the Flyers' longest active run. He has two goals and 34 assists in 63 games this season.
Meszaros has seven goals and 18 assists in 62 games this season...
The Philadelphia Flyers announced today that they have recalled 5-11, 180-lb LW Eric Wellwood from their American Hockey League affiliate, the Adirondack Phantoms, according to general manager Paul Holmgren. Wellwood will be available for the club’s game at Washington on Sunday night and will wear #47.
This is the fourth recall of the season for Wellwood, who turns 22 on Tuesday...
Philadelphia Flyers RW Jaromir Jagr moved into eighth place on the NHL's career points list.
Jagr had a goal and an assist to move him past Joe Sakic with 1,643 points.
The 39-year-old Jagr has 17 goals and 27 assists in 54 games with the Flyers.
He is in his first season back in the NHL after playing the past three seasons in Russia's Kontinental Hockey League.
Eric Wellwood scored less than a minute after Philadelphia coach Peter Laviolette called a timeout to give his players an earful, and Ilya Bryzgalov made 34 saves, leading the Flyers to a 1-0 victory over the Washington Capitals on Sunday night.
Bryzgalov earned his third shutout of the season, and the 26th of his career, even though the Flyers were missing two defensemen who sat...
Philadelphia Flyers left wing James van Riemsdyk suffered a broken bone in his foot during Thursday's game against the New York Islanders.
Van Riemsdyk was hurt when he blocked a slap shot by Islanders defenseman Milan Jurcina with his left foot. X-rays taken between periods revealed the break.
The 22-year-old van Riemsdyk is expected to be sidelined at least a month, but will...
Paul Holmgren: "Kimmo Timonen and Andrej Meszaros will be out indefinitely with lower body injuries."
"He's the Plato of hockey and he don't give a puck."
Paul Holmgren on JVR: "James will have surgery on Mar. 6 to repair a broken bone in his left foot. He will be out 4-6 weeks."
The Flyers announced that Ilya Bryzgalov will start tonight against the Washington Capitals. A preview of tonight's matchup is here.
