By Mike Luciano (@MikeLuci) As of Wednesday night, the Buffalo Sabres are presently tied with the Washington Capitals at eighty points apiece for the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference. Although Washington qualifies for the eighth slot because they have two more wins, Buffalo has eight games and sixteen points to penetrate the barrier that separates the playoff-bound teams from the squads fated to see their 2011-2012 campaigns end at the final buzzer of their eighty-second game. Considering Buffalo was dead last in the Eastern Conference at one point and time this season, their tremendous turnaround is very encouraging and has been an exciting but overlooked story that’s been overshadowed by the likes of Sidney Crosby’s return and Alexander Rudalov’s return to the NHL from Russia.
