The Nosebleeds OLD:
Remember last season when we posted the story of Jason Demers accidentally clocking a referee in the face during a fracas? Well, Cal Clutterbuck must have seen that and tried to one-up Demers because he also cold-cocked a ref last night. Clutterbuck has a reputation as an energy guy who sometimes doesn't know his own limits as can be seen here.
On a related note, two times in two years? Really? I can see one being a mistake but twice is a little suspicious. "Oh I'm sorry, Stripes. I swear I didn't know I was punching you, I couldn't see!" I'm wise to your game NHLers...
Lastly, props to the ref for taking the punch in stride. Just like the players, NHL referees are the toughest of all the leagues. I'm sure an NBA referee would have fallen down and grabbed his face while screaming at the top of his lungs.

Watch Wild Player, Cal Clutterbuck Punch NFL Referee In The Face
I have no clue who Cal Clutterbuck is. I honestly thought he was a side character in “Fargo.” However it’s my new favorite athlete name. Well good ole Cal punched 66-year-old NHL linesman, Darren Gibbs square in the face. The Minnesota Wild right winger was involved in a fracas with Maxim Lapierre of the Vancouver Canucks. Cal missed Maxim with a right hook and Clutterbucked...

Ever watch a hockey game and wonder why the referees just allow the players to go at it? The main reason is fighting is good for the game of hockey. People go to games to see fights. It’s kind of disturbing when you stop and think about it, but it’s a fact. Another reason refs [...]

It’s the video the giant herd of sports bloggers are gagging on this morning so we’ll just get this out of the way. Video: Cal Clutterbuck tangles with Maxim Lapierre, accidentally punches linesman in face
Linesman deserve hazard pay. We've always felt this way, given how often they put themselves in harm's way during hockey fights.
We feel even more strongly about it after Thursday night's game between the Minnesota Wild and the Vancouver Canucks, in which linesman Darren Gibbs was punched in the face twice accidentally by Cal Clutterbuck has he wrestled with Maxim Lapierre...
Sometimes Being an NHL Linesman is the Most Painful Job in the World
It’s not easy being an NHL official, especially when you’re called upon to break up a fight between two players in 40-pounds of hockey equipment as they swing wildly at each other. Things get a bit crazy, and if you’re not careful, you can end up taking an inadvertent shot to the face. Or two, like linesman Darren Gibbs did in last night’s Vancouver/Minnesota tilt.
Late...
