Canucks host the Not Out Flames Saturday night

The Vancouver Canucks extended their win streak to five games last night and in the process they returned to the team that resembled the one that won the President’s trophy last season. On Saturday night the Canucks host a Calgary team that saw their playoff chances all but disappear with their seventh loss in eight games on Friday night.

*NHL ATS Matchup Report*

The Calgary Flames picked exactly the wrong time to go into a tailspin and now find themselves clinging by a thread to the final playoff position in the Western Conference. Another loss will essentially end their season.

The Flames are 1-4-3 in their last eight and in the seven losses they have managed just seven goals. The team has also lost four straight games on the road – YUK!

The Flames offense, as already mentioned has gone into slumber mode and now ranks 20th in the NHL. Scouring the Hot and Not list for Calgary, there are no names that appear on the Hot list.

However, they have more than their share of Not Hot – Jarome Iginla has one goal in eight games, David Moss is pointless in 10 games, Matt Stajan hasn`t recorded a point in five games and Olli Jokinen has just two points in his last 10 contests. Calgary scares nobody offensively at the moment.

Mikka Kiprusoff appears to be running out of gas in the Flames goal – he has gone 1-3-0 in his last four starts with a 3.05 goals against average and .891 save percentage.

If Kipper is average, the team ahead of him looks below average.

The Vancouver Canucks had their most dominant effort in a month on Friday night in a 5-2 win over the Stars. Ryan Kesler and Alex Burrows broke seven game pointless streaks with assists and Henrik Sedin looked terrific in setting up three goals. The addition of Max Lapierre paid huge dividends on the top line with Lapierre scoring once and adding two assists.

Chris Higgins continued to be the best Canuck on the ice scoring his fourth goal in four games.

Vancouver looked quick, creative and cohesive offensively for the first time in a long while on Friday night – poor Calgary!

It is still unknown who will start in goal for the Canucks. It shouldn`t really matter however. Roberto Luongo is 2-0-0 in his last two starts and a 0.98 goals against average in those games after a mini slump while Cory Schneider has gone 12-1-1 in his last 14 starts while giving up 2 or less goals in 11 of those games.

Calgary Flames vs. Vancouver Betting Lines & Handicapping

Both keepers are hot right now – the Canucks can`t go wrong with either.

Dave’s wont cost you anything Flames vs. Canucks betting prediction

The Calgary Flames have lost 9 of the last 12 meetings against Vancouver overall and have lost in 5 of 7 trips to Rogers arena.

The Flames look like a beaten team – nothing has gone right for the team the last couple of weeks. The Canucks on the other hand are playing their best hockey in quite a while and are still embroiled in a tight race for the President`s trophy which gives them a whole lot to play for.

The wind is out of Calgary`s sails – look for the Canucks to kick them when they are down!

Pick: Vancouver Canucks -201

With the Calgary Flames all but out of playoff contention, do they have the energy to spoil Vancouver’s chase for the Western crown? Can Henrik Sedin follow up a 3 Assist night vs. Dallas with something better? Will Roberto Luongo be ready to go come puck drop after sitting out with a sore neck Friday?
