Found October 15, 2013 on Fox - The Hockey Guy:
PLAYERS: Nail Yakupov
TEAMS: Edmonton Oilers
There are sophomore slumps, there are complete second-year implosions. Thus far Nail Yakupov falls into the latter category. Many experts figured he was destined for a breakdout season following his strong rookie campaign. Last season he scored 17 goals – including six during a three-game span --- added 14 assists during the 48-game season. This season he had no points heading into Tuesday night’s game and became a “healthy scratch” for the first two times in his career.“He's going to be an excellent player in this league, but rather than let this keep going on and the struggle become deeper and deeper, I thought it was time to hit the reset button, get him out of the lineup, let him watch a game,” Oilers coach Dallas Eakins explained to the Edmonton media.“I've always found it's a great way to get a new perspective on the game when you're struggling. But that kid has such a passion and a work ethic that he'll rebound quickly.”The Oilers are a mess. A coaching cha...

Yakupov had been pulled from the Oilers lineup before they took on the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday. It was the first time in his career that...

Addressing Edmonton Trade Talk

Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal answers some emails... Q: If the Oilers were to go after a new No. 1 goaltender, who would be better, Ryan Miller or Jonas Hiller? A: Miller. Both guys are UFA in July. The Oilers aren’t giving up on Devan Dubnyk, certainly not after four starts. He’s a good goalie going through a rotten patch, looking like the Penguins’ Marc...

Oilers deserved better, but still see losing streak extended to four games

It would have been easy for the hapless Edmonton Oilers to just let their three-game losing streak stretch into four. Not only had they just come off a 4-2 loss to the Washington Capitals one night earlier they were in the home of the Pittsburgh Penguins who outshot the Oilers 15-3 in the first 20 minutes. But the Oilers battled back and really deserved a better fate than a 3-2...

Ryan Garner: An Open Letter to Dallas Eakins

Dear coach Eakins, First of all, on behalf of all Oiler fans, I have to apologize for Devan Dubnyk. We had no idea that he would go from “somewhat competent” to “flaming train wreck” in such a short period of time. Not to get all biblical on you, coach, but at this point it’s unclear whether Dubnyk could prevent a camel from slipping through the eye of...

Jason Chimera boards Justin Schultz

Your browser does not support iframes. Ouch! Not a good hit, actually, this is a very dangerous hit by Washington Capitals forward Jason Chimera on former Wisconsin Badger and Edmonton Oilers defenseman Justin Schultz. I would call this a push check. Chimera only received a two-minutes penalty for his efforts. Schultz appeared to be okay.

I just want to play every game. “I’m going to play my game. I’m not going to change but maybe play better without the puck, or forecheck more, but I love playing with the puck. I really don’t...
