Found April 14, 2013 on The Majors Detroit:
It’s a fair question to ask. Detroit is playing for their playoff lives and in danger of missing the postseason for the first time since the 89-90’ season. That’s before Lidstrom made his way to Detroit and back when Head Coach Mike Babcock was 2-years removed from his minor league hockey career that ended in 1988 with the Whitley Warriors. In fact it’s been so long since Detroit missed the playoffs, Pavel Datsyuk was an 11 year old boy back home in Russia watching Sergei Fedorov defect to the U.S. So can 21 straight years turn into 22? Detroit has 7 games left and 4 of them are on the road. Starting tonight in Nashville, Detroit has games at Calgary and in Vancouver this week followed by home contests with Phoenix, Los Angeles and Nashville. Finally they’ll hit the road once again to close out the season in Dallas. As we speak, Detroit shares 8th place in the West with Dallas and Columbus after going 2-4-2 in their last eight games which is not the look you want for your team tryin...

Hopelessness In Hockey Town

Playoff hockey and Hockey Town go together like peanut butter and jelly. Detroit has missed the playoffs just once since 1991. Even more impressive is that they have gotten knocked out in the front round just three times since 1995. This year however, the Red Wings are feeling blue. St. James: Red Wings pull a u-turn regarding demoting Brian Lashoff

Via RedWingsFeed, the Free Press's Helene St. James reports that the Red Wings have in fact decided to keep Brian Lashoff on the team's roster as they know their four on-paper demotions to Grand Rapids (of Lashoff, Danny DeKeyser, Brendan Smith and Gustav Nyquist) mean that the team cannot recall any demoted players unless there is a "roster emergency" (i..e. the...

Red Wings mid-day news: on DeKeyser, Filppula, Brunner and a happy but now illegal anniversary

Amongst this afternoon's Red Wings-related news stories: The Wings didn't practice after completing a slate of 3 games in 4 nights with a win against Nashville, and it has yet to officially sign Jimmy Howard (the deal's "done in principle") or officially assign Brian Lashoff to Grand Rapids (though his name no longer appears on the team's active roster...

The Huskies (and Red Wings prospect Nick Jensen) lose their locks

Those of you who watched Saint Cloud State University play in the Frozen Four, or in any college hockey game this season, probably noticed that a significant chunk of their roster sported shoulder-length hair under their helmets. It turns out that the players, including Red Wings prospect Nick Jensen, were growing out their hair for Locks of Love, and on Sunday, the Saint Cloud...

NHL playoff push: Red Wings hope streak hits 22

The Detroit Red Wings earned two points they desperately needed at Nashville, putting them in eighth place in the Western Conference standings. The streaking Dallas Stars, Columbus and Phoenix are all right behind Detroit. The 48-game, lockout-shortened sprint of a season is nearing a fantastic finish with only one team in each conference eliminated as of Monday morning. In the...

Red Wings-Blackhawks wrap-up and overnight report: splitting the split

The Red Wings can't seem to get their positives to outnumber the negatives dogging them lately, and that has Detroit fighting for its playoff life as the scene shifts to Nashville on Sunday. On Thursday night, the Red Wings were able to eke out a point of a 3-2 shootout loss to San Jose--in a game that they didn't play very well--and despite a much, much better effort in...

Can The Red Wings Keep Their Playoff Streak Alive?

Over the last two decades, The Detroit Red Wings and the Stanley Cup Playoffs have have gone together like peanut butter and jelly. You could not talk about one without mentioning the other. As a matter of fact, with the Red Wings qualifying for the playoffs the last 21 seasons, there is a good portion of the NHL fan base that likely does not remember a season where the Red Wings...

Henrik Zetterberg scored in the second period, and the Detroit Red Wings beat the Nashville Predators 3-0 Sunday night for a crucial two points in their chase to extend their streak of playoff berths. Bobby Hull, Chris Chelios, Ted Lindsay weigh in on the Red Wings-Blackhawks rivalry

The Red Wings and Blackhawks played their last game as Central Division rivals last night, and while the Hawks came out on top (as is usual these days), the New York Times' Ben Strauss suggests that the rivalry won't fade away simply because the Wings are highly likely to move to an Eastern-based conference next season, and Strauss spoke to several of the most prominent figures...

Red Wings Recap: 4.12.2013

Another slow start to this one, but that didn’t really matter because Chicago didn’t score until later in the second when Detroit had taken back control of the game. This 3-2 shootout loss means Detroit got 3/8 points against Chicago this season and won zero games. More after the jump: Why can’t this team hold a late lead? If you ask me it’s because our defense...

It’s Been A Struggle For The Wings

from Damien Cox of the the Spin at the Toronto Star, Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg have had to shoulder more of the burden than ever before. Detroit's dearth of high-end young talent after years of drafting either poorly or out of range of the best kids has finally began to impact its lineup. Injuries have hurt. Damien Brunner got hot and then he cooled. Jonas Gustavsson...

Did Wings’ rookie Danny DeKeyser make an incredibly smart pass or just get lucky? (VIDEO)

via YouTube The Red Wings signed former Western Michigan defenseman Danny DeKeyser hoping to boost their back line.  While no one expected the 23-year old to light the world on fire, he is expected to contribute on a nightly basis.  Sunday during the Nashville Predators, DeKeyser officially notched his first NHL point with an assist on Henrik Zetterberg’s second period goal....

There may be hope on the Pavel Datsyuk front

As Paul noted, the CBC's Elliotte Friedman posited his weekly "30 Thoughts" column this afternoon, and one of his "thoughts" should put Red Wings fans at some ease: Pavel Datsyuk's agent, Gary Greenstin, was in Toronto visiting client Mikhail Grabovski. We talked about rumours Datsyuk will play the last year of his contract next season, then go back...
