Defenseman Brent Sopel will try his luck in Russia.
The 34-year-old defenseman signed a two-year deal to play with Metallurg Novokuznetsk of the Kontinental Hockey League.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
"Two years in the KHL! So excited for this new opportunity!" Sopel tweeted late Friday.
Sopel collected two goals, five assists and 16 penalty minutes in 71 games with the Atlanta Thrashers and Montreal Canadiens last season.
