The Canes have claimed forward Andreas Nodl on waivers from the Philadelphia Flyers. Nodl, 24, had one assist in 12 games for the Flyers this season and averaged 10:17 in ice time. He had 11 goals and 11 assists in 67 games last season. Nodl, a native of Vienna, Austria, was a second-round pick (37th overall) by the Flyers in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. Canes general manager Jim Rutherford noted Nodl, listed at 6-1 and 196 pounds, is a "young player who skates really well" and should add depth at forward.

Hurricanes firing of Maurice hardly a suprise

Raleigh, NC --- The firing of Carolina Hurricanes coach Paul Maurice on Monday morning wasnt much of a surprise. A change was bound to happen, it was only a question of when. Carolina general manager Jim Rutherford and Maurice have a close relationship that extends some beyond hockey, so this was going to be handled with respect for Maurice, who has given the franchise much of his...

Kirk Muller a good fit for Hurricanes

Raleigh, NC --- Carolina Hurricanes general manager Jim Rutherford had something specific in mind when he began thinking about a coaching change a month ago. First of all, he wanted a "good fit" for the franchise. Tomas Kaberle's Slow Start Means Future in Carolina Is Uncertain, Says GM Jim Rutherford

Tomas Kaberle struggled mightily at times with the Bruins, as he simply did not live up to expectations that accompanied him when he was traded to Boston last season. Those deficiencies, however, were overlooked largely in part to the Bruins' run to a Stanley Cup Final. Kaberle cashed in on that run, as well as his potential to once again be a playmaking defenseman this offseason...

Wish Muller Well In Carolina -- He'll Need It

To nobody’s surprise, Paul Maurice got the short haircut again in Carolina. The Hurricanes became moribund this season on his watch, falling to 8-13-4 and 14th place in the Eastern Conference. So his second stint as the team’s head coach ended as the first one did, in disappointment. After pondering his options for several days, general manager Jim Rutherford finally offered Maurice’s...

Hurricanes claim Andreas Nodl

Jim Rutherford has been a busy man the last couple of days as he has now claimed 24-year old winger Andreas Nodl off waivers from the Philadelphia Flyers. At first, I didn't think much of this move because Nodl appeared to be nothing more than a depth forward and I assumed the 11 goals and 22 points he had last season was a product of playing on a line with Mike Richards. However...
