Found December 27, 2011 on Fox Sports Carolinas:
Shorthanded goals have been a sort of saving grace for the Hurricanes this season. They picked up their seventh man-down goal in Monday night's game against New Jersey. That came in the 37th game of the season, marking the same total they notched all of last season. If nothing else, generating offense in shorthanded situations has been something that took place prior to the coaching change that ousted Paul Maurice and continues under new coach Kirk Muller. "When you get a chance to go, you've got to go," center Brandon Sutter said of the shorthanded situations. The latest shorthanded goal came from Sutter, jump-starting the team's 4-2 victory against visiting New Jersey. It came against a Devils team that has surrendered a league-high 11 shorthanded goals. That sequence helped the Hurricanes win consecutive games for the first time in more than a month. They'll aim for their second three-game winning streak when they play Tuesday night at Pittsburgh. ...

Hurricanes G Ward credited with goal

Cam Ward of the Carolina Hurricanes became the first goaltender to score in nearly six years Monday night. Ward was credited with a rare tally by a goaltender when a pass from New Jersey's Ilya Kovalchuk went the length of the ice and into an empty net. It was the first goal by a netminder since Columbus' Chris Mason tallied for Nashville in a game against the Phoenix Coyotes...

Penguins Notebook: Hurricanes' Ward crosses goal off of list

Goaltender Cam Ward was the toast of Consol Energy Center early Tuesday, and he didn't even start for the Carolina Hurricanes later in the evening against the Penguins. "We were kind of joking that I should be on the power play," said Ward, who a night earlier became the 10th goaltender in NHL history to record -- or, in this case, be credited with -- a goal.

Bizarre empty-netter helps Carolina win (AP)

Brandon Sutter scored a short-handed goal and was credited with a bizarre empty-netter, leading the Carolina Hurricanes past the New Jersey Devils 4-2 on Monday night. Tuomo Ruutu and Anthony Stewart scored in the second period, and Tim Gleason and Tim Brent each had two assists for the Hurricanes. Sutter's empty-net goal came at the end of a strange sequence.

VIDEO: Carolina Hurricanes G Cam Ward credited with goal after New Jersey Devils blunder

With 29 seconds left in the third period, the Carolina Hurricanes took a leap with a 4-2 lead, Monday night against the New Jersey Devils. The only problem, however, is that Ilya Kovalchuk of the New Jersey Devils is to blame, after a wide pass in the Carolina zone sailed the length of the ice and into the empty New Jersey net. And, Cam Ward, goalie of the Hurricanes...
