After their 2-0 loss at New Jersey on Saturday, the Hurricanes now are 28th in the NHL in goals per game and 29th on the power play. How does a coach handle an offensively challenged team? "There are specific things you work on, and then you have to get to an understanding that you better be comfortable winning some 2-1 games until you get to the point that you're firing," Canes coach Paul Maurice said after practice today. "We won the 1-1 game (against Tampa Bay) in a shootout, and other than that we've scored seven (against Florida) but haven't scored more than two in any other night. "If we sit and wait for our offense to get going, it's going to be a painful experience." The Canes had 26 shots against the Devils but Martin Brodeur finished with a shutout.
