Canes Sign Scott Morrow to Three-Year Rookie Deal

RALEIGH, North Carolina: On Apr. 3, the Carolina Hurricanes made a slightly unexpected announcement – they were officially signing prospect defenseman Scott Morrow to a three-year entry-level deal.

Morrow, a twenty-year-old defenseman who rose to prominence while playing for the UMass hockey program, has been the subject of fan excitement since he was drafted by the Canes in the 2021 Entry NHL Draft. His collegiate career is one of note. During the 2021-2022 season, he became the first freshman in program history to mark thirty points in a season. By the season’s conclusion, Morrow was fifth in NCAA defensemen in scoring, with thirty-three points in thirty-seven games. He completed his degree at UMass, playing both sophomore and junior seasons. During both of these seasons, Morrow scored over thirty points again. In addition to that, in all three seasons, Morrow was a NCAA Hockey East All-Star team member. He was also on the roster for the 2022 World Junior Ice Hockey Championship for Team USA. Morrow practiced with the Canes on the date of his signing, wearing number 56.

Morrow is a healthy scratch for Carolina’s Apr. 4 game against Boston at home. Whether or not Morrow starts this year is an irrelevant question, as both the Canes organization and fans are thrilled to have him as past a prospect and a part of the Carolina Hurricanes brand.
