With forward Zac Dalpe listed as "week to week" with a lower-body injury, the Canes will call up a forward from the Charlotte Checkers (AHL), coach Paul Maurice said today.
Dalpe was injured Friday in the first period of the Canes' 4-3 win at Buffalo and did not return. Maurice said a decision on his replacment would be made after the Checkers' game today.
With 11 forwards at practice today, defensemen Justin Faulk and Derek Joslin filled in as a fourth-line forward at times.
Maurice made a switch during the Sabres game with his top two lines, splitting up Eric Staal and Jeff Skinner. Staal centered Alexei Ponikarovsky and Tuomo Ruutu, while Jussi Jokinen was at center with Skinner and Chad LaRose.
Staal and Skinner both had minus-5 ratings before the Sabres game. Staal now is minus-8 and Skinner minus-6, and Maurice said their plus/minus ratio was "part of the reason why we split them up again."
