David Booth was a healthy scratch fellow winger Jannik Hansen got injured and the Vancouver Canucks managed to get back on the winning track Tuesday night.
Brad Richardson scored at 2:16 of overtime to give the Canucks a 5-4 win over the New York Islanders.
New York centre Frans Nielsen had forced overtime when he scored on a rebound with 1:12 left in the third period.
Long Island native Chris Higgins had put Vancouver up 4-3 at 19:42 of the second period. Higgins scored on a rebound off a shot from defenceman Kevin Bieksa.
The win didn’t come easy as the Canucks had to battle back from an early two-goal deficit and found themselves down to 10 forwards when Hansen got hurt.
Hansen went down with seven minutes left in the first period period after he crashed into the end boards with Islander defenceman Brian Strait. Hunched over and appearing to be favouring his wrist or perhaps a shoulder Hansen skated immediately to the Vancouver dressing room and did not return.
