Now that the last cuts have been made, it appears we are seeing the lineup that will start the year together on October 3rd at the SAP Center in San Jose (SAP stands for ****** Arena Pseudonym, by the way). While there is some familiarity, it looks like we are mostly heading into uncharted territory. Either way, I wager GM Mike Gillis envisioned a different roster at the beginning of training camp. Even though we are still a few days away from opening night, I’m going to analyze the lines as they stand, and watch as John Tortorella gradually changes them rendering this entire blog moot.
Daniel Sedin – Henrik Sedin – Alexandre Burrows
Ah, old reliable. As much as I want to see Zack Kassian succeed to shove it in Cody Hodgson’s face, I don’t understand why many people are so quick to put him on the first line. I understand that Kassian provides a bodyguard-like presence that...

Horvat/Shinkaruk to remain in the bigs
The Vancouver Canucks have made another round of cuts following last night’s final pre-season game against the New York Rangers.
As Q mentioned this morning Frank Corrado and Zach Hamill have been sent back to the Utica Comets of the AHL, while Brendan Gaunce has been shipped back to the Belleville Bulls of the OHL.
While Corrado had a...

NHL goaltenders have been putting some serious effort into the creation of their masks this season, and while most of them have opted for flashy, intricate designs such as an ode to the Fresh Prince, or a flesh-eating depiction of Ben Franklin, Canucks’ goalie Roberto Luongo is going a different route.
Luongo’s new mask features a much simpler, classic design that mimics the...
ICYMI last night after the 5-0 win over the Rangers Mike Gillis and John Tortorella announced the Canucks had reduced their pre-season roster.
The following player has been assigned to the Utica Comets of the AHL:
Frank Corrado (D), and Zach Hamill (C).
The following player has been assigned to their junior club: Brendan Gaunce (C) (Belleville Bulls)
The Canucks have made their final cuts and there were some surprises. Both 18 year old first round draft picks, Hunter Shinkaruk and Bo Horvat, will start the season in the NHL this year. Meanwhile, Frank Corrado has been assigned to the Utica Comets of the AHL and Brendan Gaunce is on his way back to junior in Belleville.
As expected after Zack Kassian’s 5 game suspension, Hunter...
We all knew that there had to be a few roster cuts or trades on the horizon and late last night, we got our first moves as the Hurricanes dealt Jeremy Welsh and Zac Dalpe to the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for forward Kellan Tochkin and a fourth round pick in this year's draft. My initial reaction to this was shock because the Canes just sent two roster players to Vancouver...
Forward Jannik Hansen and the Vancouver Canucks have agreed to a four-year contract extension.
The 27-year-old from Denmark had 10 goals and 17 assists in 47 games for Vancouver last season.
Hansen has 50 goals and 81 assists in 318 career games, all of them with the Canucks. He was selected by Vancouver in the seventh round of the 2004 draft.
He has also appeared in 58 career...
I said Hockey!
You’ve probably noticed by now that we’re very nearly ready to drop the puck on a brand new season that will look drastically different from last year’s.
Aside from the full complement of 82 games, including match ups with the Eastern Conference, this year features brand new divisions and playoff formatting. For the Canucks, there’s some shiny new prospects...

Perhaps the most important task for Mike Gillis and the Vancouver Canucks is locking up Henrik and Daniel Sedin.
It appears as though they're be close to doing that.
The two sides have talked extension several times throughout the last few weeks in hopes of getting contract extensions done before the season.

NHL pre-season ended last night for the Vancouver Canucks and they have to be happy with how their team performed, especially their defense. The Canucks defense has been put into question over the last few years but it hasn’t been mainstream media because it was overshadowed by another story in the media. This season removes that distraction...
It appears that we're going to have a busy tertiary prospect-trading night. First Joe Colborne to Calgary, and now this...
Trade to announce: #Canucks have acquired Zac Dalpe and Jeremy Welsh from @NHLCanes for Kellan Tochkin and a 4th round pick in 2014.
— Vancouver Canucks (@VanCanucks) September 29, 2013
After one of the most interesting pre seasons in recent memory for the Vancouver Canucks, there now seems to be more questions surrounding the team than before exhibition play started.
A main focal point heading into preseason action this year was the vacancy of the 3rd line center position. Many thought 2012 first rounder Brendan Gaunce was poised and ready, with 2013 first...
