The Edmonton Oilers served notice in their season opener that they probably won't be pushovers against the Vancouver Canucks this season.
Already with a rare victory over Roberto Luongo, the Oilers look for more success against the Canucks in Monday night's rematch at Rexall Place.
Edmonton (4-3-1) took only one of six 2011-12 meetings against Vancouver, but got off to a good start this season with a 3-2 shootout win on the road Jan. 20. The Oilers rallied from a two-goal deficit in Nail Yakupov's NHL debut.
Jordan Eberle and Ales Hemsky scored for Edmonton to offset goals from Alexander Edler and Zack Kassian.
Now the Canucks (4-2-2) head to Rexall Place, where the Oilers have won two of three and gone 7 for 20 (35.0 percent) on the power play.
"We know that coming into Edmonton is not an easy thing," said Edler, who has a team-high seven points. "They're good at home with all their skilled, fast players so we've got to make sure we play at o...

Headline: Canucks Invade Edmonton With 1st Place on the Line
The Vancouver Canucks head Northeast on Monday night to take on one of their threats in the Northwest Division of the NHL. The Canucks enter Monday’s contest having won 2 straight games while the young Oilers return home after losing two of three games on the road, and having played their worst game...
EDMONTON -- Getting even is more fun than getting mad. Just ask the Vancouver Canucks. A week after the Edmonton Oilers came back from a 2-0 deficit to beat the Canucks 3-2 in their own building, Vancouver rolled into Rexall Place and did the exact same thing. Trailing 2-0 after 28 minutes, the Canucks flicked the switch to "swarm" and had their way with Edmonton...
from Jonathan Willis of The Cult of Hockey at the Edmonton Journal,
The Edmonton Oilers’ only realistic internal choice in net right now is Devan Dubnyk.
Backup Nikolai Khabibulin is playing out the string off a brilliant career that should have ended before he joined the team; he’s old, often injured, not very good when healthy and above all not a credible alternative...
Chris Tanev scored at 4:40 of overtime, and the Vancouver Canucks rallied for their season-high third straight victory, 3-2 over the Edmonton Oilers 3-2 on Monday night.
With just 2:17 remaining in regulation, and the Oilers holding a 2-1 lead, the Canucks tied it with a long shot from Kevin Bieksa that beat goalie Devan Dubnyk stick-side and forced overtime.
Taylor Hall was awarded...

Cory Schneider is still the starter of the Vancouver Canucks in the same way Roberto Luongo was still the starter last year when Schneider was riding a hot hand.
All that’s really happening right now is that Luongo is increasing his trade value.
Oh, and Ryan Kesler took part in his first practice yesterday.
Things are looking up.

Boxscore | Recap
For all the hype, this was probably the tamest edition of the Canucks/Blackhawks rivalry. There was absolutely no rough stuff aside from Sheldon Brookbank chasing after Alex Burrows after he cheekily slipped the puck in the net on an offside call.
Both teams came into the game saying all the right things about just wanting to get the...
Jordan Schroeder scored in a shootout to give the Vancouver Canucks a 2-1 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday night.
Schroeder, who hasn't scored a traditional goal in the regular season, fired a low, hard shot that squeaked through the pads of goalie Corey Crawford.
Alex Edler scored in regulation for the Canucks (4-2-2).
Patrick Kane had the lone goal for the Blackhawks...
from Ed Willes of the Vancouver Province,
Following Friday night’s game, Luongo sat fifth in the NHL with a 1.46 goals-against average and fourth with a .944 save percentage which, considering his Canucks career, isn’t that unusual. But unless you’ve been on a probe in deep space for the last 10 months, you may be aware the circumstances around those numbers have been...
Here we go… time to renew hostilities
The Vancouver Canucks are back in action tonight. They close out this two game home stand against their bitter rivals from the Central division, the Chicago Blackhawks. Tonight has a little something else going for it than most Canucks and Blackhawks games do.
It will be the first time the two teams have played since Duncan Keith ended Daniel...
