If this signing, much like every other one Gillis has made to this point in the offseason has you thinking #boldmoves, you should feel just a little more than validated in said feelings. ...

Vancouver Canucks: 5 must-see matchups for the 2013/14 season

Next season on…The Canucks…. Good ole storylines. Narrative drama that fuels the core of what makes sports great. The great unknowns. The Vancouver Canucks will have their fair share of those this year. There’s John Tortorella, stoic and peaceful in late June. Where will his temperament take him? There’s Roberto Luongo, who won a goaltending duel by sitting on the sidelines...

Canucks Sign Schroeder, Sauve, Weise by   Steven Ellis

The Vancouver Canucks have  re-signed Jordan Schroeder, Dale Weise and Yann Sauve. Schroeder received a one-year, one-way deal for $600,000. A talented young gun, he was drafted 22nd overall by the Vancouver Canucks during the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. Schroeder then spent several years playing with the Canucks minor league affiliates in the American Hockey League before joining...

Vancouver Canucks goalie Roberto Luongo has dumped his longtime agent and is now being represented by the heavyweight duo of J.P. Barry and Pat Brisson of CAA Sports. Barry confirmed Wednesday that the change was made earlier this week. Luongo was previously represented by Gilles Lupien who negotiated the 12-year $64-million deal that Luongo signed with the Canucks in 2009. There...

Mending fences: Canucks will retire Pavel Bure’s jersey

More than nine months after former Canuck and current Twitter superstar Gino Odjick spilled the beans, the Canucks made it official yesterday that the most exciting player in franchise history will have his jersey retired sometime in the 2013-14 season. Unlike most in Canucks nation, this isn’t news that fills me with “yes!”, “finally!” or “what took so long?!”. For...

Vancouver Canucks to retire Pavel Bure's No. 10

The Vancouver Canucks announced Tuesday night what had been hinted at last spring: they will retire Pavel Bure’s No. 10 jersey and hang it next season from the rafters at Rogers Arena. Bure joins former captains Stan Smyl Trevor Linden and Markus Naslund in the elite group that have had their jersey numbers retired. No actual date was given for the ceremony. The groundwork for...

Pavel Bure's No. 10 to be retired by the Canucks

Bygones are now bygones as Pavel Bure and the Vancouver Canucks have officially made up from their somewhat messy divorce. The Canucks will retire his No. 10 jersey this upcoming season and put his number into the rafters among the other franchise greats. They made the announcement on Tuesday evening at their Summer Series -- sounds like a WWE pay-per-view event -- with Bure on...

Canucks to retire Pavel Bure’s #10 during 13-14 season

From TSN: Pavel Bure will become only the fourth player in franchise history to have his number raised to the rafters at Rogers Arena when his #10 is retired in the upcoming season. Bure was a member of the Canucks from 1991-92 to 1997-98, scoring 254 goals and 478 points in 428 games. He still holds the franchise record for most points scored by a rookie with 60 in 1991...

Canucks: Steep learning curve as new coach gets to know his players

John Tortorella had an aisle seat on his latest flight to Vancouver. The Canucks coach strained to catch views of the city because he needed to know if those amazing post-card images were accurate. Kind of like the roster he has inherited. Not bad on paper but on the ice? With a push to promote youth in a salary-cap challenged environment and a pledge to push a veteran core the...

Good Question- Why Does Luongo Need A New Agent?

from Dan Murphy of Sportsnet, Roberto Luongo changed agents and this has to be seen as a shot across the bow of the Vancouver Canucks. Why else would a guy with nine years left on a contract fire his agent? This tells me Luongo is not coming to camp quietly (and probably doesn’t want to come at all). This tells me Gilles Lupien told Luongo that he couldn’t help...

Next Sweater Number Retired

from Sean Gentille of The Sporting News, The Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday announced, finally, that they're retiring Pavel Bure's No. 10 jersey. That got us thinking—which players, if any, should be next to be so honored by their teams? We'll go by the new divisions, starting today with the Atlantic, or Flortheast, or whatever. Detroit Red Wings: Sergei...
