Found July 05, 2012 on NorthWest Sports Beat:
Per a tweet from Chip Alexander (Carolina Hurricanes reporter for the Raleigh News & Observer Derek Joslin formerly of the Hurricanes signed with the Vancouver Canucks.

Vancouver radio station WX1130 is also reporting the news now.

The #Canucks have signed defenseman Derek Joslin to a 1 year - 2 way contract. Played 44 games in Carolina last year.— News1130 Sports (@News1130Sports) July 5, 2012

Alexander reports the contract is a 1-year, 2-way contract.

Joslin is a 6'1" 210 lbs left handed defenseman from Richmond Hill, Ontario.

He was a San Jose Sharks 5th round pick in the 2005 NHL Draft played for the Ottawa 67's of the OHL, Joslin made his NHL debut with the Sharks in 2009 vs. the N.Y. Islanders.

He has played 114 NHL games.

Last year Joslin was traded to the Carolina Hurricanes for future considerations.

He was placed on unconditional waivers this past Friday with the purpose of buying out his $750k (2-Year/1-Way contract.)

In 44 games last season, Joslin had two goals and two assists.

He'll come to camp in the fall and compete for a job on the big league team. Odds are though he's got an uphill battle on his hands.

Yesterday we originally heard about this signing via the twitter like we do everything in life now, the account belonging to

Jamie Joslin, Derek's sister. Coincidently she's also a hockey player attending Robert Morris University.

Congrats to my bro @Djos27 on being signed to the Vancouver Canucks for this upcoming season!!! Wahoo #proudcanadianteam— Jamie Joslin (@jamjos25) July 4, 2012

Here are some links to some Joslin highlights.

New Vancouver Canucks d-man Jason Garrison – love ‘em & hate ‘em

I like this move. Do you? Just when it looked on Sunday, July 1st as though Vancouver would be celebrating Canada Day and NHL Free Agency in a very low key way, a big bottle of Crown Royal was broken out late on with the signing of defenceman Jason Garrison from the Florida Panthers. (They are of course officially the exclusive supplier of Vancouver Canucks players for the past ten...

Canucks Robert Luongo gains free entry to 2012 World Series Of Poker

We've known for along time that Roberto Luongo loves his poker. Now we've found out today via The Vancouver Sun that his 2012 World Series Of Poker Tourney fee which is played in Las Vegas will be picked up by the B.C. Lottery Corp. Nice job. He's essentially getting a free ride into a $10,000 poker tournament. Not bad for a millionaire NHL hockey player who could buy...

Questions Unanswered: Joni Pitkanen's health

After signing Joe Corvo and missing out on the Ryan Suter sweepstakes, Hurricanes GM Jim Rutherford stated that he likes where the team's defense is right now and doesn't plan to make any other signings this off-season. Some might say that this is preposterous because of how poor the team's defense was last season and that entering the year with roughly the same defense...

Hurricanes Sign Joe Corvo

Going into free agency this year, there were two moves that I hoped Jim Rutherford would make. First, I wanted him to put a lot of focus on players who would give the Hurricanes a good bargain for his money. This meant looking for free agents who wouldn't cost a lot but had decent upside and could provide a decent amount of value. In addition to that, I wanted Rutherford to sign...

Roberto Luongo interview this morning on CFOX

Quote: It's time to move on... And there it is. Confirmation. Robert Luongo's time is done in Vancouver. (Not that we didn't already know it) Here's the interview. 99.3 - The Fox Rocks - The Jeff O'Neil Show

Hurricanes Scoring Chances by Game State

When looking at shot-based stats like Fenwick, Corsi and Scoring Chances, it is always important to take context into the situation. I often emphasize this point when I go over the numbers for individual players but it is also important to take them into account at the team level. Individually, context is applied by looking at where a player began most of his shifts or what kind...

Roberto Luongo Confirms 'It's Time to Move On' From Canucks, Potential Trade to Florida 'Makes Sense'

Roberto Luongo has left Vancouver. OK, it's only for a brief trip to Las Vegas, where he will be participating in the World Series of Poker this week. But if there were any doubts that the trade rumors swirling around the Canucks netminder were going to come to fruition, Luongo did a pretty good job erasing them on Friday. Luongo spoke for the first time since the end of the...

Are Canucks fans wondering out loud about Bobby Ryan?

Playing GMMG For A Day While Vancouver Canucks fans patiently wait out a trade for goalie Roberto Luongo, I thought it would be fun to play the I’m Mike Gillis game again. This time instead of eating as many lobster stuffed tacos as I can and drinking enough red wine to fill a bath tub, I’m going to focus on a trade. The focus of that trade is Bobby Ryan. I’ll be honest, I’m...

Canucks sign defenseman Patrick Mullen

Today we learned via the Vancouver Canucks team website that they've signed Patrick Mullen. The 26 year old Pittsburgh PA native was undrafted. He is a 6'0" 181lbs right handed shooting defenseman. He collected 20 points (3-17-20) in 67 games in 2010/11 with the Manchester Monarchs of the AHL. He also appeared in seven playoff games, recording one point and...

Lucky Luongo

from Brad Ziemer of the Vancouver Sun, The B.C. Lottery Corp. is paying Vancouver Canucks goalie Roberto Luongo’s $10,000 entry fee into next week’s World Series of Poker main event in Las Vegas…. As part of that contract, the lottery corporation confirmed Thursday that Luongo represents its Playnow.com poker and casino games website at a number of gaming events, including...

Jason Garrison, beyond the numbers

The Canucks signed Jason Garrison the other day to a whopping 6 year $27.6 million deal. The response in the hours and days afterwards have been all over the map. Some see this as a gross overpayment of a player that had one lucky season, others see it as a case of the Canucks getting a player for less money than he could have had elsewhere. So where does the truth lie? I have to...

Mats Sundin’s Hall Of Fame Case

This is my final post making the Hall of Fame case for the 2012 Hall of Fame inductees.  I have written posts about Pavel Bure, Adam Oates and Joe Sakic.  Today it is Mats Sundin’s turn. I make my cases using the Keltner List.  This is a series of qualitative questions popularized by Bill James in baseball, but the same idea works well in hockey as well. Continue reading...
