Canucks looking to channel 2011 Boston Bruins?

I know it sounds absolutely insane but the Vancouver Canucks will look to draw a little inspiration from the team that beat them in the Cup final last season. Down two games in the first round last season the Boston Bruins pulled up their socks and we all know what happened.

*NHL ATS Matchup Report*

The road back to redemption starts Sunday night – it truly is do or die time for the President’s Trophy winners.

The Vancouver Canucks may need a change of scenery. They may need a spark that a goaltending change could provide. They could get both when the series moves to the Staples Center on Sunday night.

Vancouver is licking their wounds – for the first time in franchise history they have lost their first two games of a playoff series on home ice.

Dating back to last season, the Canucks have lost six of their last seven playoff games. It doesn’t appear as though there is a ton to like ahead of Game 3 until you consider that Vancouver largely dominated the five on five play during the game and may slowly be working out of their mini-funk.

It is virtually never that a team gives up two shorthanded goals in a game and it is inconceivable that a team as talented as Vancouver generates 48 shots and scores only twice.

Vancouver has to get better but first they need to stop giving the puck away!

The Canucks will be forced to play without Daniel Sedin again on Sunday – Henrik Sedin has looked lost without his brother during the series so far, trying to do too much and turning the puck over far too often. Jannik Hansen looked decent in Daniel’s place on the top line and Alex Burrows was typically good.

Ryan Kesler played perhaps his best game of the last couple of months and the third and fourth lines each had moments during Game 2. Things offensively weren’t so bad on Friday folks – it is time the Canucks were rewarded for their work in the offensive zone!

Now if they could get a power play that has gone 0 for 10 so far going, things could get a whole lot easier.

Vancouver Canucks vs. L.A. Kings Game 3 Betting Lines & Handicapping

Roberto Luongo, it could be argued has been the best Canuck so far in the series but he may sit on Sunday in favor of Cory Schneider who has been terrific for Vancouver – no shame Roberto, the team needs a shake-up!

The Los Angeles Kings have played two perfect games – Mike Richards was the star in Game 1 and Dustin Brown was beast in Game 2 recording a hat trick with two shorthanded goals along the way!

Now it is back to LA where the Kings have lost five straight playoff games dating back to 2010.

Special Teams has been the determining factor in the series so far. The Kings have gone 3 for 12 in the power play and they have two shorthanded goals – that’s five goals to Vancouver’s four goals total in the two games so far. Nuff said!

Jonathan Quick has been as advertised so far in the series – incredible. He stopped 46 shots in Game 2 and didn’t even appear to break a sweat.

He will need to continue to be the Kings’ best player – Vancouver isn’t about to quit just yet!

Vancouver did some good things on Friday night but they weren’t rewarded for their good play. The Canucks are arguably the proudest team in the NHL – they will not tolerate any more sloppy play.

Don’t write the Canucks off just yet – they were President’s Trophy winners for a reason. Relax folks, the Canucks will bounce back!

Pick: Vancouver Canucks +103
