Back with another guest post is Caps correspondent Brad Parker. Winners Alex Ovechkin – In February he was lazy, past his prime and everything wrong with superstar athletes. Then he set the all-time NHL record for goals in April, led the NHL in goals for the season and tied Sidney Crosby in points. And unlike Sidney Crosby, he consistently plays in NHL games. Nick Backstrom –- Reuniting him with Ovi saved the season. He finished just outside of the top-10 in scoring and is a huge reason Ovi’s being considered for the Hart again. Braden Holtby –- It’s easy to forget that this was his first full season in the NHL, and it wasn’t a full season thanks to the lockout. The starting role is his and he’ll have a very long leash in both the playoffs and the ‘13-14 season. Mike Green –- When he got healthy the team turned around. Green is the QB of the power play and led the league in goals for defensemen. He also shattered Nate Thompson’s visor and became one of the first people on the plane...

Pittsburgh Penguins: Too Many Players, So Little Time

Sidney Crosby worked out with the Penguins conditioning coach and left the ice before the Penguins started their practice this morning. Odds are Crosby will not be playing tonight.  Coach Bylsma usually has the players attend the regular practice if they are playing, though he could make an exception for Crosby. While it is up in the air whether he will be in the lineup for the...

Alex Ovechkin’s inability to say “hockey at its best” leads to hilarious blooper reel

While shooting some sort of playoff promo, Capitals superstar Alex Ovechkin is given the speaking line “hockey at its best,” which seems simple enough, until you remember that Ovi’s first language isn’t English. Sidney Crosby will visit a doctor on Tuesday to confirm whether or not he his clear to play in Game 1 of the Pittsburgh Penguins’ Eastern COnference Quarterfinal series against the New York Islanders. Crosby told Josh Yohe of McKeesport Daily

Special teams matchup may decide the series

Jim McIsaac/Getty Images North America One of the oldest adages of hockey is that to win games, you must stay out of the penalty box.  Nothing revolutionary there, it makes sense that you don’t want to give your opponent too many chances to outnumber you on the ice. It will certainly ring true in Round One, when the Rangers face Washington’s #1 ranked power play, which converted...
