Mike Ribeiro scored 9:24 into overtime, and the Washington Capitals beat the New York Rangers 2-1 Friday night to regain the momentum - and the lead - in their first-round playoff series. Ribeiro put in the puck after Troy Brouwer deflected a shot from the blue line. The Capitals lead the series 3-2. Game 6 is Sunday in New York. The home team has won every game in the series, with Washington taking the first two and New York pulling even in Games 3 and 4. The Capitals have been fighting history along the way: The franchise has lost eight playoff series in which it has held a two-game lead. Brian Boyle scored for New York in the first minute. Joel Ward tied it in the second period.

Capitals Mike Ribeiro scores game-winning goal in Capitals/Rangers game five (Video)

One of the most exciting 2013 NHL playoff series has to be the Eastern Conference quarterfinals match-up between the New York Rangers and the Washington Capitals. With the series tied at 2 and game five heading to an overtime period, things appeared to be getting tight on both sides. With nine minutes gone in the overtime period, Capitals defenseman Mike Ribeiro ended the game...

Alex Ovechkin Makes Mockery of Backchecking, Glides Into Zone During Rangers Goal (Video)

Alex Ovechkin is one of the game’s best offensive players, but his defensive skills — and efforts — are simply embarrassing. At least they were on Wednesday night, when he was gliding through his defensive zone as the Rangers put up a third period insurance goal at Madison Square Garden. Check out his pathetic attempt at backchecking in the video below, and if you have kids...

Ovechkin Doesn't Like to Hustle

While Alex Ovechkin feels the Rangers don't like to be physical, it's him who apparently doesn't like to hustle as seen in this hysterical .gif of Derek Stepan's game winner last night... ...if I'm a Capitals fan I'm furious with that half ass effort. It's bad enough he's not scoring, now he's not even hustling. Embarrassing. ...this...

Happy Mother’s Day

Even though I lost my mom a few years ago, I still think of her especially when it comes to hockey. One memory will always stand out. During the Wings cup run in 1998, I was luck enough to win 2 tickets to watch game 3 of the SCF against the Washington Capitals, tickets courtesy of a local radio station. It was a fly in a few hours before the game, go to the game and fly out...

Rangers-Capitals Preview

Not a single member of the current Washington Capitals roster is from Washington. In fact, Jeff Halpern remains the only player born-and-bred in the area to make the local NHL team, and he's come and gone twice in his 13 seasons in the league. So perhaps Jason Chimera, a native of Edmonton who has been with the Capitals only since 2009, could be forgiven for his response when...
