Washington Capitals center Nicklas Backstrom said he feels ready to return to the lineup after taking an elbow to the head earlier in the week.
Backstrom practiced for the second straight day on Friday and said he felt "ready to go." Washington plays at San Jose on Saturday night.
Capitals coach Dale Hunter agreed that Backstrom looks good but said he is still being evaluated by the team's medical staff.
Backstrom leveled by the elbow of Calgary forward Rene Bourque in a 3-1 victory over the Flames on Tuesday. Bourque was given a five-game suspension for the hit.
The team's leading scorer with 42 points, Backstrom has one goal and seven assists in a five-game points streak.
