Capitals’ Rasmus Sandin out with lower-body injury, won’t play Saturday vs. Bruins

The Washington Capitals announced that defenseman Rasmus Sandin is dealing with a lower-body injury and will not in their Saturday night game against the Boston Bruins.

The 24-year-old defenseman played 22:21 of ice time in the Capitals’ latest game, a 5-1 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday.

Sandin has three goals and 20 assists for 23 points in 64 games this season.

Sandin was drafted No. 29 overall by the Maple Leafs in 2018, then spent nearly five seasons with the Maple Leafs’ organization, scoring 10 goals and 38 assists for 48 points in 140 games. After being traded to the Capitals last season, he’s scored six goals and 32 assists for 38 points in 83 games.

In 223 career games, he’s scored 16 goals and 70 assists for 86 points.

Going into the night, the Capitals are 36-27-9 with 81 points, fourth in the Metropolitan Division and holding onto the second and final Wild Card position.
