ARLINGTON, Va. – The Washington Capitals have signed right wing Eric Fehr to a one-year, $600,000 contract, vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today. Fehr, 27, recorded 25 points (13 goals, 12 assists) and was a plus-13 in 21 games with HPK of the SM-liiga (Finland) this season. He led the team in goals and was tied for second in points despite playing in just 21 of the team’s 39 games. In 2011-12, Fehr tallied two goals, one assist and 12 penalty minutes in 35 games with the Winnipeg Jets. He was traded to Winnipeg by Washington on July 8, 2011, in exchange for a fourth-round draft pick (Thomas Di Pauli) and Danick Paquette.

Mike Green, other NHL defensemen seek rebound

Many NHL defensemen are striving to get back to top form this season, but perhaps no player has as far to travel as Mike Green. From 2008-10, Green scored 50 goals and racked up 149 points for the Washington Capitals. But then multiple injuries and the decline of the Capitals power play rendered him a shell of his former self.Last season he scored just seven points in 32 games ...

Training Camp: January 14

The Washington Capitals returned to the ice Monday morning for their second training camp practice under new head coach Adam Oates.  Some news and notes from Kettler: First off, defenseman Tom Poti was hot on the comeback trail Sunday night, scoring a power play goal for the Hershey Bears in his first competitive game in two years.  Poti will play again Wednesday night if he...

Donald Brashear cheap shots opponent in LNAH game and starts bench clearing scrum

The Ligue Nord-Américaine de Hockey is a Quebec Semi-Pro hockey league.  Occasionally washed up hockey players will join the league, and as you can see from the video, this is very low quality hockey.Former NHL player Donald Brashear attacked his opponent in this game between Saguenay and Rivière-du-loup, much like Todd Bertuzzi did to Steve Moore.  Thankfully, the player was...

Donald Brashear's Cheap Shot

((HT: The Score)) So, let's get in the mood for hockey season by focusing on the bad... Shall we...??? And this wasn't even in the minor leagues that are attached to the major leagues here in North America... Donald Brashear has been playing in the LNAH (a minor league based in Quebec province) since he's on the downside of his hockey-playing Laffer Curve...

Knuble Gets a Tryout...And That Is A Good Thing

Ok, I'm convinced.  Somebody in the Wings brass reads NOHS.  First, I called for Detroit to sign Gustavsson and low and behold, Kenny signs the Swede first thing this off-season.  Second, I've been calling for Detroit to sign Knuble for the past two years and, lookie here, the Michigan man has a tryout with Detroit. Veteran forward Mike Knuble, 40, will be attending...

Hershey Bears 5, Connecticut Whale 0

Hershey, PA, January 13, 2013 – A poor first period doomed the Connecticut Whale Sunday at Giant Center, as the Hershey Bears scored four times in the first en route to a 5-0 win. The result gave the Bears a sweep of a two-game series in Hershey with the Whale, whom they bested 4-3 in a shootout Friday night. Barry Almeida led the way for Hershey Sunday with a goal and...

Brashear Strikes Again

Believe it or not, Donald Brashear is still playing hockey.  He's currently competing in a semi-pro league in Quebec.  At age 41, Brashear is clearly over the hill.   But this clip from last night shows he's still pretty good at sucker-punching opposing players:   Once an idiot, always an idiot.

In Case You Were Wondering, Donald Brashear Is Still An Idiot

He sucker punched Aaron Ward. He destroyed Blair Betts' face with a blindside hit. He ate up cap space and was the epitome of irrelevance before blaming the Rangers and demanding a trade during his (thankfully) short time with the Rangers. There are many reasons to despise Donald Brashear. And now we can add one more. The 41 year old Brashear is currently plating in the...

MLive's Ansar Khan reports that the Red Wings have decided to give 40-year-old Mike Knuble a thank-you for helping out the Grand Rapids Griffins...and they're giving him a chance to finish his career with the team he wanted to finish his career playing for: Veteran forward Mike Knuble, 40, will be attending Detroit Red Wings training camp on a tryout. The 6-foot...

Photo by Chris Gordon For almost four full months, as the NHL lockout wore on, Capitals fans and fans all over the League were asking one question: when would their teams take to the ice?  Early on the morning of January 6, that question was answered when the Board of Governors and the NHLPA agreed to a new collective bargaining agreement that will lead to a shortened, 48-game...
