Found July 02, 2012 on Rock the Red:
The Washington Capitals have signed unrestricted free agent defenseman Garrett Stafford and restricted free agent defenseman Kevin Marshall to one-year contracts. Stafford, 32, is an AHL-level offensive defenseman.  He has appeared in 7 career NHL games for Detroit, Dallas, and Phoenix, posting 2 assists.  He spent last season split between Hamilton and Portland of the AHL.  He is unlikely to play in Washington this season. Marshall, 23, was acquired from the Philadelphia Flyers on Groundhog Day for minor-league forward Matthew Ford.  Marshall appeared in 10 games for the Flyers this season and had a cameo appearance in HBO's "24/7." He played 68 games in the AHL split between Adirondack and Hershey.  Marshall, a second-round pick of the Flyers in 2007, may get a cup of coffee in the NHL this season with the Capitals.

TSN, Sending Up Semin

We in Washington have, understandably, a conflicted view of Alexander Semin. To be sure, we’re aware of his numerous and infuriating faults: so often, he seemed invisible; so often, he seemed capable of so much more. Yet we’ve also had the best seat in hockey to witness his extraordinary exhibitions of sublime skill: the wicked wrister that has almost no rival; that other-worldly...

Capitals Free Agency Preview

Note: This article was meant to be posted on June 30th, but I lost power on Friday night and just had it restored today. Therefore, some of the information might be outdated. George McPhee and the Washington Capitals were the champions of the off-season last year but the moves they made didn’t quite have the on ice results most were hoping for. Whether you want to blame injuries...

Capitals Sign Joey Crabb

As first reporrted by TSN's Darren Dreger and then confirmed by Stephen Whyno of the Washington Times, the Washington Capitals have signed winger Joey Crabb to a one-year deal worth $950,000. Crabb spent last season with the Toronto Maple Leafs, where he scored 11 goals and had 26 points in 67 games.  His corsi was in the negatives, but he faced tough zone starts on a bad...

Free Agent Folly

Photo by the Washington Post George McPhee cannot win. Heading in to free agency on July 1st, many expected the Capitals’ General Manager to make a splash – like he has in almost every other free agency period during his tenure. But as Sunday and Monday past, only Joey Crabb, a bottom six forward, was added to the Washington player corps.  There was no winger to replace...

Ovechkin At Wimbledon

Alex Ovechkin is taking in Wimbledon this week. Here he is seen cheering on Russian tennis star Maria Kirilenko as she takes on Poland's Agnieszka Radwańska on ESPN2 today. In this photo, the television announcers asked, "Alex Ovechkin, what are you chewing there? I think it's like a bottle cap or something."
