Nicklas Backstrom, seen here signing autographs for some kids, became a father this morning to a healthy baby girl (courtesy of Hockey Ramblings)
Caps center Nicklas Backstrom and his girlfriend are proud to welcome a new addition to their family in the form of a baby girl, born today, October 8th, just two days after the original due date.
News broke this morning of the birth when Katie Carrera of the Washington Post tweeted the news.
Nicklas Backstrom’s girlfriend gave birth to the couple’s first child, a baby girl, early this morning. Understandably he’s not at practice.

Word of the couple’s pregnancy broke over the summer when Backstrom told Swedish news papers that he and his girlfriend were expecting, calling it “…an experience that is difficult to describe. But it’s much better than a World Championship gold medal.”
Backstrom obviously missed today’s practice, but no word yet on whether or not he’ll miss Thursday’s game against the Carolina Hurricanes. We here at DC Sports Kings want to congratulate the entire Backstrom family on their new bundle of joy!

Sergei Fedorov is about to resume his professional hockey career. The 43-year-old Fedorov is ready to make his return to the ice and will suit up for CSKA Moscow of the KHL on Friday. Fedorov last played for Metallurg Mg back in March of 2012 and now (if the reports are true) will abandon retirement after a little over a year and a half. The move is a fascinating one considering...

That’s the tweet that was Washington Capitals forward Joel Ward’s cry for help as he was locked in a bathroom at a Dallas hotel. Like any smart millennial would, Ward took to Twitter to broadcast his dilemma and find a way...
Monumental Sports offers exclusive Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom (and Mike Green) bobbleheads, in road jerseys.
Sergei Fedorov is spending his time these days as the general manager of rick KHL club CSKA Moscow. Problem is it's not going so well as his team sits tied for seventh in the KHL West and his team has played more games than the teams they're locked up with. Overall they are 5-3-0-7 not where a team with Alexander Radulov is expected to be.
So perhaps that's the driving...
For the last two years, I've been suggesting that former Red Wing and current CSKA Moscow GM Sergei Fedorov would make some sort of "curtain call" appearance for CSKA to help drum up support for the team--and to play his final professional games for the team with which he "turned pro"--and Sovetsky Sport's Pavel Lysenkov reports that the 43-year-old will...
After three explosive games by the Washington Capitals’ captain, Alexander Ovechkin, the NHL finally recognized him as the NHL’s “First Star” of the week. Ovechkin jumped out on to the league lead in goals with 4 along with points where he racked up 6 in the first 3 games. He also leads the NHL in total shots on goal with 24 so far.
Although the winger is...
The Capitals picked up rangy defenseman Alexander Urbom off waivers from the New Jersey Devils last week and after allowing the 22-year-old Swede some time to get to know the team’s system Coach Adam Oates expects to get him some ice time during the upcoming five-game homestand.
“We didn’t throw him to the wolves in Dallas just because he just got here and I wanted to get...
Before they were off to sign autographs for fans at Six Flags on Tuesday, Karl Alzner and Troy Brouwer teamed up to ride the Skycoaster. Here is what they (likely) weren't saying.
Former NHL forward Sergei Fedorov is reportedly coming out of retirement to play in the KHL at the age of 43. Yes, I know, that does sound as weird as it looks. When CSKA Moscow, the team he currently is the general manager for, takes on Magnitogorsk Metallurg, he will be there due to injuries on the squad. Fedorov returned to his [...]
