Before Sunday's game, Capitals coach Adam Oates had a feeling Jason Chimera was getting close to breaking out of his scoreless slump. He was right. Chimera scored his first regular-season goal in nearly a year and the Capitals held on for a 5-3 victory over the Buffalo Sabres on Sunday night, raising expectations that Chimera and Washington's offense might be finding their form. Troy Brouwer, Marcus Johansson and Matthieu Perrault all added a goal and an assist for the Capitals, who broke out of an offensive funk in which they had scored only seven times in five games -- losing four. And Alex Ovechkin got the Capitals (12-15-1) going with his 350th NHL goal, just 19 seconds in, and Washington beat Buffalo at home for the seventh time in eight games. Now, as they attempt a playoff push, the Caps are hoping Chimera can be a more frequent contributor. Washington ended the night six points out of a playoff spot. ''I told him, yesterday in (Saturday's 4-1 loss) ...

Matt Hendricks Taunts TD Garden Fan After Losing Fight With Adam McQuaid (Animation)

Matt Hendricks didn’t make any friends at the TD Garden on Saturday, and that didn’t ring true only on the ice. Hendricks got into it with a fan on his way to the locker room late in the game, after he lost a spirited scrap against Bruins enforcer Adam McQuaid. As he headed down the hallway, the Capitals center turned and motioned that he would be watching the offending fan,...

Mike Milbury Says Alex Ovechkin Is Letting Himself Down by Not Making Full Commitment to Hockey (Video)

After starting out his career with so much promise, Alex Ovechkin has looked like an average player the last few seasons. Former Bruin Mike Milbury says that is due to a lack of commitment on Ovechkin’s part. He says Ovechkin is inconsistent because he’s not putting his whole mind into being the best player he can be. The former Islanders head coach and general manager said it’s...

Do Or Die Week For The Capitals

from Katie Carrera of Capitals Insider, With 20 games left to play after Sunday’s 5-3 win against Buffalo, the Capitals have 25 points. They trail eighth-place Carolina by six and Southeast Division leading Winnipeg by seven heading into a pivotal week on the road. Washington travels to face Eastern Conference leading Pittsburgh on Tuesday, faces their immediate foe...

Laich Set to Make Debut

A little over an hour ago, Washington Post’s Katie Carrera reported that Brooks Laich will make his debut tonight against the Pittsburgh Penguins.  Laich was injured while playing in Switzerland during the lockout and, in my opinion, has been a large missing piece in the team’s search for consistency. While Laich’s stats have been declining over the past couple of seasons...

“You Wonder Why We Yell”

Forget hockey plays. What really worried the Capitals’ Joel Ward momentum-wise in the Capitals’ 5-3 win over Buffalo Sunday night was the minor power outage at Verizon Center at the start of the third period. “We were just glad it wasn’t another blackout like the Super Bowl,” he joked after the game, which eventually resumed in a slightly less illuminated setting. “We...
