Game one is in the books.  So is injury one.  D Jack Hillen has been placed on the injured reserve by the Caps after a hit into the boards by Tampa's Vincent Lecavalier.  Hillen suffered a left shoulder injury and is considered to be week to week.  Hillen's 2013 first season with the Caps lasted about 11 minutes before he nailed the boards and grimaced in pain. To replace Hillen, the Caps have recalled D Tomas Kundratek from the AHL Hershey Bears.  The promotion is well deserved.  Kundratek was named to the AHL All Star team.  He was the only Bear to be named to the All Star team for the AHL's Eastern Conference. Kundratek's sixth overall among AHL defenseman in scoring.  In 41 games, he has tallied 13 goals and 13 assists.  He is third overall on the Bears with 26 points.  Six of Kundratek's thirteen goals have come on the Bear's power play.

The Blind Spot

In hockey, net traffic and screens can be your best friend or worst enemy. Washington learned that the hard way Saturday in the 3-6 loss to Tampa. Traffic certainly didn’t account for all of Tampa’s scoring, but it appeared to help on at least a few of the tallies. Capitals’ goaltender Braden Holtby already plays an aggressive style of goaltending which is fairly protective...
