Many of the journalists already had their game story written and were packing up, but the last minute heroics of Brooks Laich and Alex Ovechkin forced rewrites as the Caps beat the Islanders, 2-1. (Then again, with the Caps trailing 1-0 in the final minute, they could’ve used the same text from several other games this season.)
Caps alumni Calle Johansson, John Druce and Peter Bondra attended the game.
Caps’ backup goaltender Todd Ford generously showed me his Johnny Cash goalie mask, one of the best in the NHL. And this is coming from someone who hates Johnny Cash music.
