After yesterday’s vitriol, we have reason to smile.  The season is here!  Tomorrow!  Really!

Let’s usher in a new era of Edmonton Oilers hockey with our new fearless leader

Captain Horcoff. Photo courtesy communities.canada.com

Shawn Horcoff has been named the thirteenth Oilers Captain in team history.  And while I was holding out hope for Whitney, Horcoff is a solid pick.

One of the elder statesmen on the club, 32 year old Horcoff will be asked to help lead the team out of the bowels of the Western Conference, and up to the ladder to somewhere near respectability.

I’ve said previously that when a new captain is named, it affects those around him more than it does the newly named captain.  I don’t see Horcoff’s game changing much from this, but here’s hoping the ‘C’ will propel him to grow giant wings on his back, or magic finger power.

Or maybe it’ll get him sixty points. That would get everyone on board for Captain Horcoff.

Good luck, Horc.  Rooting for you to lead a resurgence.

We’ve got a season opener to talk about tomorrow night.  It’s been a wild offseason, and Sheldon Souray has been loaned (gasp) to the Hershey Bears on top of that.  Join us for a game preview, lineups,  some talking points, and a review following (sometime) after the game.

See you then.
