Found March 01, 2013 on Fox Sports Arizona:
Glendale's Mayor Jerry Weiers was supposed to highlight the citys economic plan and the future of the Phoenix Coyotes at Thursdays State of the City event. Instead, Cardinals team president Michael Bidwill stole the show when he announced the team is close to an agreement to move training camp to Glendale. Cardinals training camp has been held in Flagstaff every year since the team's arrival in Arizona in 1988 and is one of the few, established franchise traditions. But last season was the last year of the team's contract with Northern Arizona University. Fan turnout at NAU has grown over the past few seasons ever since the clubs run to the Super Bowl -- and Flagstaff offers fans and yes, media members, a chance to escape the Valleys August heat for a few weeks in a picturesque mountain setting. Beaver Street Brewery, Snowbowl hikes and late nights in Old Town are familiar to most Cards fans. It would be a shame to lose those traditions. That said, the Cardinals ha...

Yandle's goal among strangest you'll ever see

A mundane, otherwise disappointing loss to the Wild on Thursday still provided one of the strangest and most memorable goals of the Coyotes' season to date (and maybe ever). With just under five minutes left in the game and the Coyotes trailing 4-1, defenseman Keith Yandle brought the puck over the blue line near the boards and dumped it in off the glass. As the puck got to...

Same lapses have Coyotes in last, in trouble

GLENDALE, Ariz. Dont look now, but the Coyotes are in last place in the same Pacific Division they won just 11 months ago. The situation isnt dire yet, but the signs sure are. Twenty games into the season, Phoenix is committing the same mental errors it did in the first week of the season. Twenty games into the season, there is still no sign of that water-tight defense that defined...

Keith Yandle scores bizarre off-the-glass goal

I have literally never seen anything like this in all my years of watching hockey.  Phoenix Coyotes defenseman Keith Yandle dumped the puck in off the top of the glass and it bounced off the stanchion, skipped on the ice and then beat Minnesota Wild goalie Nick Backstrom shortside beneath his knee.  No one will ever be able to duplicate something like this ever again. Minnesota...

Paul Bissonnette gets lit up in a fight by Mike Rupp

Phoenix Coyotes enforcer Paul Bissonnette had a three-game point streak and had been playing very good hockey.  Unfortunately for him, he didn’t have a very good outing in a fight on Thursday night with Minnesota Wild’s Mike Rupp.  Rupp is far bigger than Bissonnette and his reach clearly was an advantage for him during this heavy weight tilt.  He knocked around Bissonnette...

Coyotes recall Chris Brown and Rob Klinkhammer

The Phoenix Coyotes on Friday recalled forwards Chris Brown and Rob Klinkhammer from their AHL affiliate in Portland, Maine. The 22-year-old Brown has 18 goals and 11 assists in 51 games for Portland this season. Brown was a second-round draft pick of the Coyotes in 2009. He didn't sign with Phoenix until last year after he finished his college career at Michigan, where he...

Sullivan scores tying goal and in SO for Coyotes

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) -- Steve Sullivan scored the tying goal with 6:28 remaining in regulation and then netted the lone goal in the shootout to lift the Phoenix Coyotes past the Anaheim Ducks 5-4 on Saturday night. Lauri Korpikoski scored twice, Matthew Lombardi added a goal, and Mike Smith stopped 31 shots through overtime and then all three shootout attempts for the Coyotes, who...

Michael Rupp rocks Paul Bissonnette's world

The big news from Michael Rupp vs Paul Bissonnette: BizNasty left last night’s brawl with a stream of blood over his left eye after getting rocked by Rupp. You had to figure, after BizNasty went on a three-game scoring streak, he’d be a little rusty in the fighting department. After his suddenly hot play, the Coyotes actually gave Biz 12 shifts last night against Minnesota....

Ducks-Coyotes Preview

Thanks to a unique twist in the lockout-shortened schedule, the Anaheim Ducks will be seeing a lot of the Phoenix Coyotes over the next few days. With the way Anaheim has been playing lately, the opponent hasn't seemed to matter anyway. The Ducks - off to the best start in team history - seek their 13th win in 15 games on Saturday night when they begin a stretch of three games...
